Schools w/ Merit Aid? (1400 SAT)

Top 2 percent of my class (around 1000 in class)
3.9x GPA (UW)
First Gen
Will have strong LORs (hopefully)

My only concern is my SAT. I don’t know which schools it would make me competitive for merit scholarships. 1400 SAT and 31 ACT as of now. I plan on retaking the SAT and maybe the ACT. But as is, can someone please list schools that I’d have a good shot at? I’m also going pre-med, so if there are any small LACs or other schools that are supportive to premeds, please do list those aswell!

Thank you!

How much can you pay annually for college? That is an important question here.

Tell us how much your family can pay annually and folks can suggest colleges where you might get merit aid to cover the balance.

After Financial Aid, our net cost will be likely $25,000 / yr. My parents can pay $15,000 / year.

Do the net costs include the $5500 Direct Loan, and earnings from a job YOU have?

As a note…being first generation might help with admissions…but it does not help with merit aid unless there is an award specifically for first generation students.

If your family can pay $15,000 and you take the $5500 Direct Loan…then you have a little over $20,000 as your budget.

Are any of YOUR instate publics within that price point?

@mom2collegekids with 1400 SAT and a 3.9 Uw GPA, and $15,000 from the family and a $5500 Direct Loan…would Alabama be affordable.

@WayOutWestMom what about U of New Mexico?

Ucf, FSU. I know ucf has a decent premed and your 31 score should get you their top scholarship and out of state waiver.

Your posts are confusing.

How can your family pay $15k per year if their AGI is only $40k per year???

What kind of FA are you expecting?

Merit awards will likely reduce whatever aid you’re expecting.

Merit is applied FIRST, and then FA is awarded. It sounds like you think you’ll be awarded FA, and then your family will have a net cost of $15k, and then you can apply merit aid to reduce that $15k to 10k. It doesnt’ work that way.

@mom2collegekids

My comment about the AGI being $40,000 was a reference to my parents providing me with false financial info earlier on. Our AGI is actually 70,000. I should have made that more clear.
