Schools with a cheap out of state rate?

Hi, I am a Caucasian and Asian student from California with a 4.04 weighted GPA, 3.8 unweighted GPA, and projected SAT score of around 1900. I also wish to get into Business - Marketing.

I was wondering if there are any schools with a cheap out of state rate (under 15k) or any schools that would have any generous scholarships for my demographic.

Thanks!

Four-year State U. of NY schools charge less than $15k for tuition to out-of-state students. But of course with room, board, etc. the cost of attendance is over $29k.

Here’s Binghamton, which has a School of Management:
[Binghamton University - Admission: Undergraduate Admission: Costs and Financial Aid: Affording Binghamton](<a href=“Cost & Aid | Undergraduate Admissions | Binghamton University”>Cost & Aid | Undergraduate Admissions | Binghamton University)

Binghamton is one of the two most selective schools in the system, and the School of Management is one of the most selective programs. But SUNY has many other business programs with similar costs.

cheap out of state rate (under 15k

Do you mean for TUITION? or for total cost?

I doubt that there are many/any OOS schools that would only cost $15k TOTAL…that would mean about $5k and about $10k for room, board, books, fees, etc.

What is your M+CR score? Are you retesting?

Are your PARENTS saying that THEY’LL pay $15k per year?

There are not that many universities that cost $15K or less even for instate students (I am assuming this student is looking for four year colleges and plans to live on campus).

Eastern New Mexico State will come in at ~$17,000 total COA for OOS.

The University of South Dakota has an OOS COA of around $17,000. Depending on your ACT / SAT results you would most likely receive scholarships to bring that cost down to around $15,000. The net price calculator does estimate merit money.

It is an accredited business school.

A senior member of CC points out that Univ. of Alabama has outstanding scholarships for OOS freshman.
Depending on your SAT M+CR scores, your net cost to attend UA maybe around $15,000. You should run the NPC for UA

Bemidji State offers Business Administration and has a listed total cost of attendance of $18,537 for out of state students.

Is your family prepared to pay more each year? Expect costs to increase each year.

If the 15k is what your parents are willing to pay, you, the student have a bit of a financial buffer. As a student you are eligible for federal loans. Also, you can earn several thousand dollars by working over the summers.

Look at the schools in the [Western Undergraduate Exchange](Save On College Tuition | Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)). They all offer discounted rates for California residents.

If you can get that SAT score up - or perhaps see if you can do better on the ACT - you’ll have more options. You might also want to take a look at the [test-optional schools](ACT/SAT Optional List - Fairtest).

Not a tier 1 school but the University of Southern Mississippi’s tuition is just a little over $9000/yr for out of state students. You would probably be at the upper end of their class profile.

lvvcsf…

I’m not sure where you’re getting your info, but U Southern Miss has a higher OOS tuition than that…

2012-13 Tuition

General tuition* $3,168/semester

Nonresident tuition* $4,056 - in addition to general tuition

So, the tuition is about $7100 per semester this year…so about $14,200 this year (the next 4 years will be higher).

mom2:I miss read I thought the OOS tuition was the full OOS tuition not added to the regular tuition. My bad.

Second dogersmom…check out the WUE colleges and what that program encompasses.

We need more info from the OP.

Does the $15k include room, board, fees, etc? or just tuition.

The problem with WUE is that many of the better schools don’t participate, some limit the number of students who can get the WUE rate, some won’t let you get merit scholarships to help with costs, AND the tuition is 150% of instate rate (so it’s not instate rate).

150% of instate rate PLUS room, board, books, fees, will likely be more than $15k at most WUE schools…except maybe some of the lesser known/commuter schools…which would be less desirable.

If the student really has a $15k TOTAL budget, then he really needs to focus on a couple types of schools…

1) State schools that he can commute to.

2) CSUs with low cost R&B.

3) Schools that will give him free tuition, so that the $15k can pay for room, board, books, fees and transportation.
