Looking for Schools with programs for digital/electronic media arts/video and audio production, scriptwriting, perhaps filmmaking. Would prefer it to be schools on the eastcoast, but open to all schools.

USC.......

Emerson, NYU, maybe Bard.

Emerson could work. I should add that this is for a solid B student.

Worth a look, Full Sail, offers Bachelor's and Associate's degrees. In Orlando: http://www.fullsail.com/

If open to California, Chapman University has a great film program with film production, broadcast journalism/tv, scriptwriting and film studies where you can use the equipment from the first day. Also Loyola Marymount University, UCLA and SDSU.

Another two on the east coast are Florida State U and University of Central Florida.

Hi NEMom! Upon looking for my d one of the schools that got my attention was UNC at Wilmington. They have a film making Dept. and there is a MAJOR studio right in the area. I believe a # of tv shows and possibly movies are shot from that studio. Can't tell you anything specific about the program- but I know it exists . website for school is www.uncw.edu. Going down to Fla Sunday to "bring Mom back to Brooklyn" so I may be away from these boards for a while. I'm also going to be more of a lurker in the near future- as I am just about done with the process. But I'll stay in touch via PM with you!
If I can think of more schools- I'll let you know.

Thought of another- Montclair State has a BFA in filmmaking. That also seems like a very interesting school.

gymeni, Thanks. I never heard of it. Something new, to learn about.

Anoel, Thank you. I would really prefer eastcoast, but have heard of Chapman. Do you know how many east coast kids go there? I think that you need a car there. Is this true? I have to read up on the other schools.

HI Marny, Thank you for this information. I did not know about these programs. I did find a program at Kutztown for Electronic Media. It sounds interesting. I am beginning an early search for S #2 (it is way early, but this seems to be the direction he is headed, and where he seems to have some interests). I know nothing about these fields, a true noobie to this. Have fun in Florida, and do keep up posted on your Ds (both here and pm)! I am sure many posters want to hear from you!

You should cross-post this under Art Majors. There are many knowledgeable posters with information on programs in LAC's, Universities, and free-standing art schools.

We've been looking into schools offering digital media studies and have found a bunch of them. Many techie/engineering schools offer such a program, but not necessarily within their engineering departments (often in their Fine Arts departments!), which may mean (we hope) slightly less competition from the 4.0 GPA engineering students (we have a B-student here as well). My son is hoping to roll in some computer science as well, although he is not as interested in film per se, and he wants either CA or "back east" (with a few exceptions). Among the schools we've looked at are:

Northeastern
WPI
RPI
RIT
U Rochester
Stevens
Drew
Fairleigh Dickinson
Purdue
UC Santa Cruz
and yes, Full Sail.

unsoccer-mom, Thanks for the tip. I never even thought of doing that. I need all of the help that I can get, to learn about these majors.

Rochester Institute of Technology.

http://www.rit.edu/~sofa/

mootmom, Thanks for this too. Unlike my older son, my younger one is less techie, although open to trying a programming class. He just does not have a natural flair, or interest in it. He is more into drama, creative writing, creative thinking. He is definitely a B kid. We are very early in the process, as he is only going into hs, but I already have an idea as to where his interests are, and I know nothing about these fields.

Ohio University, I hope that this is what you are looking for http://www.mcclureschool.info/ Digmedia has a S in the Honors Tutorial Colllege in Film and he could answer questions about the HTC.

My S has a friend in Visual Communications at OU. He's very happy. He's a great kid but was not a super student.

Here is another link to OU's school of communications. http://www.ohio.edu/admissions/academics/comm.cfm

I was thinking about digmedia too. I thought he had a son in a specialized program like that. So you may want to pm him. Gotta go now. My d is on MTV- TRL. It's school spirit week and her school is featured 3:30-4:30 She's in the audience. Gotta start taping it for hubby.

Well CB says there are 31% out of state students at Chapman but I know the school is trying to increase that and probably more OOS students will be in the film program. Cars are really helpful at Chapman but most students there say that you can get around without one by getting rides from friends or using the bus/Metrolink.

Wilmington is a good suggestion, I looked at that school and really liked it and it seemed to have a good film program.

Here's a link with some info on film schools:

Looks as if Drexel may have something worth looking into.

http://www.drexel.edu/em/undergrad/academics/comad.html
http://www.drexel.edu/comad/

mootmom, Thanks. I will check out Drexel tomorrow. I just do not care for this school on the whole. I have read too many bad things. I will have a sample though, since one of my son's friends will be attending next fall. I want to see how it goes for him. At the end of next year, I will hear from a current student.

Anoel, thanks for coming back and answering my questions.

I'd love to hear some of those first-hand accounts, northeastmom, since this one will likely be on my S's list. Thanks!
