I love music and I'm considering applying to boarding schools in the fall. Any recommendation for schools with strong music programs and orchestra? I'm an international student and play flute and piano. I'm not interested in art schools like Interlochen or Walnut Hill. Thanks!

Choate has an excellent music program. On top of our great music groups, at the end of your first year at the school, you may apply for the Music Concentration program. This program allows you to substitute the athletics requirement with music practice.

Why not Interlochen? It is probably the best music high school in the country.

I hear Interlochen is a great school but I’m not a type of conservatory and I want to go to BS not only for music. I’d love to try many different things beside music. However, music is still a big thing for me and I want to play in the orchestra.

Thank you, GoldBlue. I know Choate is a wonderful school but it’s too difficult for me since there is no ESL. I’m looking for BS that is smaller and not too competitive.
Any other suggestions, please!

How about Emma Willard, if you don’t mind all-girls school? girlgeekmom had a very informative thread on how her musically-gifted D chose it over several other very good schools. Check this out:
