Schools with Generous Merit Aid For Above Average Students

U of Iowa.

All the public Arizona schools. There are generous with merit and looking for an influx of young brains, not just people over 60.

Elmira College in NYState would be very generous to someone with your stats,

Lynchburg College in Virginia would give lots of money but I wouldn't recommend going there.

I don't think I'll find a comparable quality of a school/price to the University of Nebraska (only $13,500). What do you guys think?

Indiana University at Bloomington has good merit scholarships.

Check out the following "Automatic Academic Scholarships":

Automatic Academic Scholarships: Types of Scholarships: Office of Scholarships: IU Bloomington

The deadline for many of these was November 1st in most cases. However, they do consider people up to February 1st (actual qualification dates are on the website.)

If you come from a low income family and have faced other obstacles, take a look at the Torch Scholars Program at Northeastern U. Full ride, but you do need to apply separately, and competition is steep.

Other schools where you'd likely get good merit money with your stats: University of Portland (Oregon), Knox College, Goucher College, DePauw U (they have an online merit calculator, I believe), Beloit (best awards require 3.5 unweighted and strong ECs), Lawrence, Otterbein (Ohio), Ohio Wesleyan, Clark U (MA). Also check out Creighton and Marquette.

But, you are right. When a school starts off with a COA of more than $45,000, you will be hard pressed to find a better deal than in-state at your public flagship.
Schools with a Cost of Attendance below $40,000, however, can work out pretty close to what you're talking about - just don't forget to factor in travel costs.

do any ivies give merit aid?

You're going to college and you spell like that?

Baracuta - who are you talking to?

Look at Marshall University.

That is an amazing award for the above average student, and Marshall is a good school. If I would have known about this, I would have applied for it.

A2Wolves - that seems like the PERFECT scholarship and opportunity! The deadline was December 1st though, so it doesn't look like I'll be able to apply :(. I wonder if they make any exceptions (most likely not). It's unfortunate, I wish I would have known about it before the deadline.

I know - had that feeling with a lot of schools. Sorry about that, but I'm putting it out there for future students.

Oh it's not your fault at all, I'm glad you included it, it truly does seem like a great program. I saw on their website that they actually increased the study abroad amount to $7000 too!
