Schools with intergraded dorms

My S feel in love with Reed college and one of the things, among many, that impressed him was that they had intergraded dorms. Does anyone know of any other colleges that may have this and how could I research them? We also looked at another college that same day and they had all the freshman housed together in a dorm that was far away from campus. He HATED it and actually left the tour after that. So I'm assuming this is going to be a top priority for him.

That’s cool about Reed, but all-freshman dorms can be a big part of the first year college experience. In many inter-grade dorms there isn’t the community feel that exists in freshman year halls. I’d advise your son to think twice about dismissing what might be the right school because it has all-freshman dorms. Most schools do… Also I can’t speak for your son but housing, let alone whether or not it’s inter-grade, should not be one’s top priority in selecting a school.

If you’re looking for a LAC, both Oberlin and Carleton have mixed-grade dorms.

As far as I remember, UPS in Tacoma mixes in freshman, although at least one dorm is reserved for upperclassmen. Haverford in Philadelphia also mixes classes but reserves apartments for post-freshmen. Wesleyan in CT has at least a few mixed class dorms. I don’t think Carleton in MN isolates first years, but I won’t swear to it.

Notre Dame, Rice, Stanford (some)

What’s really great is that there are differences between schools. D1’s dorm was integrated, and she got out as soon as she could; D2’s dorm was segregated, and she got out as soon as she could. ;)
