Schools with large merit scholarships, out of state? (35 act, 3.89 GPA)

I am a senior looking for some last minute additions to my college list. I don’t care much about prestige, but am obviously looking for the best school to attend within my price range.

I have a 35 on the ACT, 3.89 GPA from a very competitive, highly regarded independent school. I have 200+ hours volunteering, played a varsity sport all four years, and am a solid essay-writer (I’ve been told, at least).

I’m looking to spend no more than 32k a year, but am willing to go up to 37, depending. Any schools where this might fly? I will not qualify for need-based aid, so it would all need to be merit.

I was looking at Miami in Ohio, but am not super into the party/Greek scene there. I’m having a hard time navigating options.

Any suggestions?

There are some schools in Arizona, Alabama, and Mississippi that have automatic big scholarships for your stats, but some deadlines may already be passing.

But $32-37k per year suggests that you probably can afford your in state public schools, even before scholarships.

What is your intended major?

Thanks for quick reply! You’re right, my in-state public will be my go-to without any other option. I have been wishing for at least one other option to consider, though. Not a need, by any stretch, though!

My intended major is History, hoping for law school after completing undergraduate

You are a little late for some merit awards which had deadlines for admission that have already passed.

You could look at U of New Mexico, and maybe Arizona (I don’t know their merit deadline).

You say OOS…but where is IN state?

Are you looking for “as cheap as possible” to save money for law school?

I am not sure if it’s too late for merit at University of Pittsburgh, but you can apply quickly online and see.

Where is your home state?

Look at College of Wooster and Denison - both have good merit.
