So we are scheduling soon for junior year, and I am debating on if I should take Earth Science. Here is what I’m considering for this year:
(Honors) Earth Science
AP Physics 1
Here were my previous science courses:
9th - Biology
10th - Chemistry/AP Environmental Science
11th - ?
So here are my questions:
- Does it look bad if I take Earth Science? It’s seen as an easier class at my school, but it interests me so much.
- Would colleges look down upon it if I take it? (Alongside Physics)?
- Would it look bad going from AP Environmental Science to Honors Earth Science?
Like I said, it really interests me. However, mainly people who want to take an easy science take it in 9th and 10th grade…whereas I would be taking it in 11th.
Why would you take APES and then honors? It’ll likely be the same material just taught at a lower level.
Not necessarily. Honors Earth Science is mainly in meteorology and geology, whereas APES barley touched on either of these.
@idkanymorelol That’s your school then, I guess. At most schools in my district, it’s the same curriculum but modified.
Oh, okay. But would this look bad to colleges?
I would recommend AP physics 1, and if possible take earth science along with it. If you are interested in earth science for college, taking ap chemistry and physics is extremely useful, and would definitely make you more competitive. You already have APES which is another good choice. Overall, don’t miss out on an ap class, I believe that steadily increasing the number of aps I took from year to year, as well as a drastic improvement in the grades of my harder classes are what got me into some top school (I was slightly lacking in gpa and had good but not outstanding test scores, upward trends matter). Best of luck to you.
If it is physics versus earth science, take physics. (For some reason, it is common on these forums for high school students to want to avoid physics.)
If you will take physics anyway, what other course would you choose if you did not take earth science?
Okay thanks! So I plan on majoring in environmental science maybe idk yet. If I take AP Physics 1 junior year, then AP Chem senior year that would be good?
I would probably take another science course.
