Are there any fields of science that require less math?
I’m in high school precalculus right now and I’m bad at math. (“bad” as in I do really bad in honors math classes but get A+s in regular math classes if that makes any sense. I took honors geometry in 9th grade and got a C+, regular Algebra 2 in 10th and got an A+, took half a semester of precalculus regular and got an A+, decided to move up to honors and got straight Ds for the other semester, and now I’m in Calc honors with a B+.)
I’m into chemistry, astronomy/physics (especially), environmental science/earth and planetary sciences/meterology, and marine biology.
I love science but science is a lot of math apparently which sucks, but for a person that isn’t bad nor good, any of those listed above work?
All science requires math. Chemistry, physics, and atmospheric sciences (meteorology) probably require the most math. Biology is typically thought of as being a less math-based discipline, and in some ways this may be true, but there is still a considerable amount of math depending on what you want to study in biology.
for most science degrees you will need to take 1-2 chemistry classes and 1-2 physics classes. plus a math class. beyond that there is no more math. look into geology and biology, and environmental science.
Probably Calculus I and II at the very least (possibly apart from Biology) are required for most science majors.
However, let me question your initial premise that you are “bad at math”. It sounds to me like you are able to to it but just not at the accelerated pace of the honors classes. Maybe you just need to give it more time and take it a bit slower. Don’t sell yourself short.
Something else to keep in mind: when the math matters to you, it becomes a lot more interesting and you’re more motivated to figure it out. For me, I became more interested and focused on my math courses when I saw how they fit into the rest of what I was studying in a major that I enjoyed.
I’m a geology major and it the requirements depend on your concentration. I’m on the general geology track. So I’ve had to take Pre-Cal, Cal 1, and Cal 2. The geological engineering track requires more math based classes and I think the science education track doesn’t really require any. I’ve also had to take chemistry and physics as well. I’m not the best at math but I was able to get Bs. Chemistry and physics, I’m in the solid C range. But I’ve heard from my professors some schools that offer geology don’t require Calculus. I just see it as a hoop I have to jump through. Good Luck!
are you kidding, geology requires chemistry, physics, and calc 3 and reccomended linear alg. Biology woukd be the meast math intensive. Geology is heavy in chem and physics
All science subject require math, but pre-med level of science classes does not require a high level of math. what I mean is that there is no requirement of taking Calc based Physics, it could be non-Calc based Physics and there is no need to take any science classes that are structured specifically for engineers either.
