Science Olympiad and Science Bowl

What is the difference between these two and how do you prepare for them to succeed(go to Nationals)? Thanks.

By the way, I’ve already looked at the two websites. I wanted to know your opinions/experiences (hopefully first-hand).

…

One takes hours and hours and hours of commitment. The other takes some self studying if general science topics. Is your high school successful at either/both?

Science Olympiad is in several broad topics and generally more prestigious if you reach the US Olympic team for it.

@TwoTravelin… which one is which?

Science Olympiad is the greater time comittment. 23 events spread among 15 team members on topics that will likely be new to you b

so you can just study for Science Bowl and do well, but that doesn’t apply for the Olympiad?

Apollo I think you’re confusing yourself. There’s no Olympic team for Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is a team event, the overall team must do well to progress to States/Nationals.
Some events are study oriented: Anatomy/Physiology, Designer Genes, Ecology
Some are lab related: Forensics, Circuit Lab
Some are building related: Mission Possible (rube Goldberg machine), Robot Arm, Sumo Bots, etc.
There are 23 event, 15 people per team, you will generally have a partner for all of your events (not necessarily the same partner) the average person does 2-3 events. Depending on how your team does at regionals, they can progress to states. Depending on what state you’re in, either the top or top 2 teams from your state progress to Nationals.
