D got LL and the Science research fellowship too. Could anyone currently in the SRF program share your experience?

dave61 : Congratulations ! My child is a freshman at CC and an SRF as well. Your daughter will get details soon and will be invited to fly down to the campus as well. It is a prestigious award that also funds them for research work for the first two summers. It is Columbia’s way of competing with the likes of Harvard, Princeton and MIT. You can see a profile of the current kids here : [Current Science Research Fellows | Columbia College](http://www.college.columbia.edu/academics/research/programs/srf/fellows).

dadmm85,

Thanks for the info. Does your child enjoy the program and Columbia? Did he/she get good financial aid and grant?

davev61 : I sent you a PM on your question(s)

@dadmm85
I just received a LL and science research fellowship a few days ago. On the website, they say that this includes an “enhanced” financial aid package. Is this just the grant, or separately for financial aid?

ysquared : Congratulations on the LL and SRF.

When you visit the campus (if it was like last year, they will fly you in if you live in the US), they will go over in detail the SRF fellowship package. In addition they will arrange for a private session with a financial aid person. My suspicion is that the research grant is separate from the financial aid (which is needs based). However best to ask them.

Hey, I’m currently a SRF at Columbia and can answer any questions you have!!

Hi ColumbiaSRFellow,
How does Columbia decide if a student fit better with Rabi or SRF program? And between the 2, which one is more prestigious?

Bump for the previous question: Can any current SRF/Rabi scholars give any details as to which is more prestigious / key differences between the programs?

Would really appreciate a reply :)

I’d say that SRF/Rabi scholar programs are virtually identical in terms of providing opportunities for summer research & funding (and even academic research, if you want). Athough Rabi has been established much longer than SRF, which I believe came into existence in the past few years, one is not necessarily more “prestigious” than the other; both are highly prestigious programs. They are just managed and supervised by different faculty members. One difference I noticed is that SRF tends to have more prospective biology/neuroscience majors, while Rabi has slightly more math/physics majors (there are exceptions though, and I may be mistaken on that point).
This is coming from a current SRF :)
