Science Research Mentor

Hello, I have many questions.
I am in a STEM program right now that has offered to kind of “set me up” with a research mentor in the category that I would like. However, here are my questions.

  1. What is a research mentor?
  2. Do I help/observe the work that she is doing or am i supposed to come up with my own project?
  3. If it does have to be my own project is it supposed to be new or something that’s been done before?

Those are my basic questions but any more insight would help. Also, I only have 2 days to come up with my decision if i would like one or not, so thanks for your input.

A research mentor will be someone who is older and experienced in research who will help you get research experience - they are probably the right person to answer questions 2 and 3 as those will depend upon both you and them. A mentor’s role is to assist someone just starting out in getting on the right track - why wouldn’t you want one?

@CaMom13 sorry I didn’t see your response. Thanks for your input I decided to get a research mentor.
