I come from a region where the ACT is predominant, but my school made me take the SAT for the national merit competition (I scored high enough to at least be commended). I was planning on sending in my ACTs and some SAT subject tests, when schools don’t participate in score choice, does that mean I have to send in the 1 SAT I have if I want to send in my SAT subject tests? Or is this mostly a school by school basis?

Yup, depends on the school. Unfortunately, if the school wants you to send everything, you have to send everything.
