I have heard that Northwestern admission is based heavily on scores. How true is this? Also, do Northwestern applicants typically submit SAT or ACT? I got a 800/720/800/12 and 36/36/36/36/12, respectively, and I submitted both scores to Northwestern. I also submitted 800 on MathIIC and 760 on World History SAT IIs, and I also have 5s on 10 AP exams. However, my GPA is a bit lower (3.75 UW), but I have taken very challenging AP loaded schedule and attend a very competitive school on the east coast, where few people typically apply to NU but a large amount go to Ivys. I am in the top 15ish % of my high school class. My extra curriculars are very strong with a good mix of national awards, leadership, and volunteering. My essays and recs should be decent, but nothing amazing. I applied to ED in Weinberg for a history major. Will my scores significantly help for ED, or is the GPA still significantly hinder me? Will the 36 on ACT play a large role in a midwest school?

Personally, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Your scores for both tests are amazing, and your GPA isn’t all that low. Less people in the midwest take the SAT, so I would think that your SAT score would help you. Stats wise, you’ve definitely got the chops to get into Northwestern, especially since you applied ED, so don’t dwell on it! Good luck!

Yeah I’ll chime in also with the chance you see this when you’re freaking out before you get your decision. It does not play a large role given its a midwest school. Its the 21st century, they don’t really value one score more than the other. You got a 36 on the ACT and a 2320 on the SAT. These are amazing scores. Like if you’re stressing out, look up what percentage of people get the scores you got. It’s not many. You most likely will get in but if you don’t, don’t sweat it. You’ll get in somewhere great that you’ll excel. Scores are only part of the admissions decision. it really is holistic.
