So,here's the weird deal. I have only two schools to choose b/c i have goten into thei music departments only here...u of miami (frost) and tulane. problem? 40k+ a year. other problem? parents wont pay AT ALL for college...they arfe able to pay some of it but will not...so i don't know wha tto do. haven't gotten any aid from either school. AH!

Is your efc high and you received no aid or you did not get your finaid package yet? And did your parents just tell you today they would not pay at all or did you know this all along? Did you apply to your state school where tuition might be lower?

well...nothing really. if i got into mcgill this would be not an issue bc theyre significantly cheaper than other colleges, like 20k a year, but i didn't.

um my dad always said he'd "help" and lately he said "nope you're mature enough to handle it on your own." so no i did not applyto a state school b/c i thought i'd get out.

Yes, but how did you get into this situation? It sounds like you want only a BMW or a Lexus, and you are just now finding out they are expensive and you can't afford either one. I suggest you think carefully about how you got in this predicament. Often looking back shows you the way forward too.

ha no way. i get no cars, i get no money,i go to college with loans and debt, that's how it works (and any money i make over the summer.) there is none of this 'rich boy' brat crap seriously...myfamily is likelower middle class, nothing to the extent of miami people.

Well, if UM and Tulane are your only live options at this point, I would suggest taking a gap year, earning some money, and doing it over next fall with a better-matching selection of colleges. You must be a very talented musician -- get some killer gigs and hone your chops for a year. Consider ROTC or some of the other ways of getting your tuition paid by Uncle.

My D got into her dream school for vocal performance but the aid was not enough. She would have to loan 21k a year which would be too much. She received almost a full tuition scholarship from a local private school. Just needs to pay room and board. We are going with this option since I just do not have the money. We are low income and she has worked to pay for her music lessons.

or go to community college/ work for a year and then apply to McGill ( assuming your parents will pay for a McGill education). What about other cheaper but also very good Canadian schools like UBC, UAlberta?

the thing is if i'm rejected from a school i lose interestslowly...but surely...like i still wonder if there's naything i couldve done to get int o mcgill but i am slowly not caring lol. ubc is really good i looked at it. it looks amazing. and so does u of toronto.
