Scripps or Pitzer (Help Please!)

I’ve decided to apply to one Claremont college, and it’s down to Pitzer and Scripps. I’d love to hear people’s opinions on both, because I’m having a hard time figuring out which one to choose.

I am interested in studying psychology, and research and internships are high on my list of priorities. As far as rankings and scores go, I’m generally within or above the average for admission at both.

The liberal and activist environment of Pitzer really appeals to me. I like that it’s accepting and has an emphasis on diversity. I’m a little concerned about the drug use and party scene. I don’t mind that it’s present, but I’m wondering if it dominates the social scene or if there are other options. I’m also unsure about the administration and guidance, because I’ve heard that it’s not always totally together, and that the career center isn’t the most helpful. I like the laid back and explorative educational environment, but I also like some structure and reliability from the college. I’m looking for a serious academic environment, with challenging and interesting courses. I also want a place where my peers are genuinely interested in learning and the material.

As for Scripps, it seems like the administration and organization is very well managed. I do like a quiet environment, and it seems like there are some good resources for networking etc. I generally prefer a co-ed college for its increased diversity and the varied perspectives of the student body, but it seems like the consortium provides that anyway. I’m torn between this and Pitzer, because the down-to-earth and activist scene at Pitzer is very important to me, but I want to know that my education will be served well and that I’ll be in a social environment where I feel safe and that I can enjoy.

I would love to hear the pros and cons of each and take your suggestions.

Thank you!

Are you sure you can’t apply to both? Seems like both are a fit for you.

I’m mostly looking at East coast colleges. I get a discount at the consortium because I have family who works there, so it’s a great deal for some really great schools, but I also want to get out of my small town. These are definitely players, but I’d like to focus my net on out-of-state schools.

So you live in Claremont? You should be able to make easy visits and talk to students if that is the case.
