Seriously man, it’s been a really long f****** journey that I’m glad is just about done.
Yep, essentially. I do, but from what I’ve been hearing, they might take up until April 30th to make a decision. No way am I waiting that late for a decision.
As much as I love the Beach, I think I’m going to go to CPP. I really want to change my major over to Business, but when I talked with a CSULB counselor today, he was more or less like we don’t allow changes until after you first semester, and even after that, there is no guarantee because of how impacted we are that a change will happen. Basically your in that major until you graduate.
When I spoke with a CPP adviser, she told me to come to orientation and have my stuff completed and there’s a good chance they’ll let me change. It hurts for me to let CSULB go, but I gotta go where there’s a better chance of getting the degree I truly want as opposed to one I’ll have to settle for.
Tough choice man, much tougher then I thought at least.
Originally, I was a psy major but then changed it as I was taking a intro geography course. I had to wait a couple semesters in order to obtain those units to fulfill the requirements for the ADT but well worth it. Psy is an excellent major but after working with Autistic kids for 3+ yrs I am over it and found out it’s just not my passion.
So I get where you’re coming from. Very glad that you decided to go the road less traveled in order to ensure a future of contentment rather than settling. Go get that business degree! @firefox952
@IsntThatSpatial - I understand that completely. I love history as it is incredibly fascinating to me, but I know my job prospects won’t be as high with it, unless I want to teach or do research (not knocking teachers or profs but I couldn’t do their jobs). At least you got that ADT! Yeah of course. I have a cousin who has autism and I can’t imagine having that or working with those kids (nothing wrong with them at all, I just couldn’t handle it).
I’m glad your going to such an incredible school man. The opportunities I’m sure you’ll have there are nothing short of amazing. Heck yeah! That’s the plan!
@hwalters6 and @willowstil thats really not how it works. I understand it sucks when you don’t get into your top choice, but be logical rather than trying to insist on a narrative that frankly does not exist. You were rejected because in some way, you just did not make the cut. They DO NOT reject people who are “too good”, that’s an incredibly ignorant and honestly, hilarious, way of thinking of it. Not to be rude, but you were not “too good” you were not enough. Let’s also not make the mistake of saying you would go to a UC over SDSU, because most people at SDSU picked SDSU over schools like ucsb, ucd, even ucsd. SDSU is now comparable to mid tier UCs and more well known than some of them. They rejected you because you were not enough, not because you deserved better. Good luck!
Denied
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.6
ADT: Yes
Pre-reqs : Done
Golden 4: Done
SD Area : No
Other Schools: Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, CSUF, UCLA, UCI, UCR, UCSD,
Admitted: Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, CSUF & waiting on UC’s
UCLA is my first choice so not too bummed about not getting in just actually curious as to why I didn’t get in especially when others didn’t have the same stats and did, although I do realize poli sci is an impacted major there.
@Darcytina I honestly did not mean for my comment to put down the school or anyone who goes there, but I see how it could come across that way, and for that I’m sorry. I know that SDSU is a great school and a great option for a lot of people. You are incorrect in assuming I wouldn’t go to a UC, because all of my top choices are UCs, but there is no denying that SDSU is a very good school. However, I don’t think either of us know how the admissions process really works. As we see, SDSU is admitting many lower GPA applicants over high GPA applicants, and since the state application is based solely on numbers and not other factors, it is interesting to note. I’m not saying that my theory is correct, it was simply a thought. Everyone who got in deserved to get in, 100%, and I’m not trying to diminish anyone’s accomplishments.
However, in your anger, saying that I am “not good enough” is rude and uncalled for. I understand that if you thought in my first comment I was acting “better than” how you would have the urge to put me down and say nasty things, but there really was no need.
Does anyone remember if the Cal State Apply application for SDSU required you to choose an alternate major? I realized that the major I got in for isn’t the one I want and I was 99% sure I chose a different major on the application. If SDSU did require an alternate major (or if I was just an idiot when I was applying and chose the wrong one), is it difficult to request to change the pre-major? SDSU is my top choice for now, but I don’t want to waste my time or money if I have to stick with my major since the oos tuition is high.
Also, should I go ahead and put in my enrollment deposit? I know I have until May, but I’m not sure if there’s an advantage to depositing money early or if I should just wait to hear back from the UCs.
Sorry about the barrage of questions, I’m just anxious lol.
You can change your major at State. If you decide to submit the $400 deposit it’ll go towards your tuition but you won’t get the money back if you decide to attend a diff school. I don’t think there is an advantage to depositing money early.
@IsntThatSpatial Thanks! I’m asking because on their website it says:
Transfer students are admitted based on their intended major for a bachelor’s degree at SDSU. Therefore, you will not be able to change your major as an applicant or admitted student.
^ that worries me since I want to change it before the start of the Fall semester.
@darcytina You really need to just calm down… neither of us were saying anything bad about SDSU. When I said “it sucks” I meant it sucks to get denied from a state school with such a high gpa when I met all the requirements. I actually called admissions and they said I was denied because my gpa and major are very competitive and the vast majority of those spots went to local transfer students. I never thought I got denied because i was too good, literally no one said that and I do not believe that. The fact you were that mad to respond to us is honestly hilarious to me considering all I did was post my stats and say I got denied and that it “sucks” Hahahaha
@Darcytina while you may be correct that they don’t purposefully reject good applicants that’s where you stop being correct. 1. Sometimes they do not have space and they can only take local students such as yourself. That doesn’t make you a better applicant. You got in with a 3.56. You do not even have as good stats as the person you’re putting down. So if it is pure merit then you would not have gotten in instead of others denied with a higher gpa. 2. To assume that SDSU is someone’s top choice without knowing them is ignorant. Just because it was yours doesn’t make it everyone else’s. 3. Saying “let’s not make the mistake you would go to a UC over SDSU” is incredibly ignorant and uninformed. I guess you’ve never heard of Berkeley or UCLA. 4. These threads are to support others, not put them down so next time you decide to personally attack someone else make sure your stats aren’t worse.
@Romeo233 I received my decision at the end of February and got denied. Now I’m hearing in the thread that people who state they are earning ADT’s receive their decisions after March 15. I listed on my application that I’ll be earning an ADT this semester. Heck, I listed on my application that I will be earning 3 ADT’s and receive 4 regular associate’s all in this semester! Still, they rejected me! I don’t know if they’ve received the verification or not, maybe that’s why they released my decision earlier than expected for ADT Applicants.
Seriously though, that day I was sad and doubted my own abilities after being rejected from SDSU, which wasn’t even near the top of my personal college choices (I don’t mean to offend anybody). My own mom had to tell me multiple times that there were some factors outside of my control that got me denied. Turns out she was right and seeing how multiple people with 3.1+ GPA’s were being admitted, I felt a little better afterwards knowing that I did whatever I could to be the best version of myself and put it on an application that doesn’t use nor accept personal essays that demonstrate who someone is beyond the numbers.
I’m not going to sugarcoat it, I really really hate that San Diego State gives geographically close, otherwise called “local” students better chances than others. Heck, I even needed to google what this meant and I was shocked when I realized what it was. I understand the benefits of in-state versus out of state students and it is those benefits which allow state colleges to thrive in the first place. This is just brutal, if anything San Diego State is a CSU, as such it should think more about every CA citizen first rather than every local “San Diego citizen” then CA citizen. That’s just weird.
Well, now I can stop doubting myself and understand that sometimes there are factors beyond your control, at the very least I know that I have done everything I could to be a good applicant.
All CSU’s give their local candidates a closer look as oppose to non locals. That is the whole point of the CSU system. To give regional access. It’s not just SDSU.
UC’s on the other hand except a wide variety of candidates from all over the state and out of state.
I just wanted to point that out and clarify. All of this information can be obtained on a google search.
On another note I was not expecting to get in to San Jose State since I live in SD. So I didn’t apply to that campus. I was realistic about which schools would or would not accept me and applied accordingly regardless of my gpa.
The whole point of the CSU is for regional access. So guys it’s not your gpas or anything like that we’re all great candidates and we all will end up where we need to be.
