SDSU vs UCSD

I was just accepted to both schools, however my plan was to receive my bachelors in nursing and then go on to receive my masters so I can become an emergency room nurse practitioner. However, i was totally surprised when I got a call yesterday the UCSD accepted me. UCSD doesn't have a nursing program, but I could major In human biology, receive my bachelors, and then go to physician assistant school. I'm just caught up with all the ahhs an ohhhh that I'm getting right now. Should I just go to SDSU ( if I go there, I get 7 grand coming back to me because of my financial aid) and continue with nursing school there? I hate making these decisions.

PAs generally make more money, have greater autonomy from MD supervision and slightly more prestige within the medical heirarchy than Nurse Practioners. The argument for SDSU would be that if you have been accepted into their Nursing program you are pretty much guaranteed of earning a bachelors degree in Nursing with which you could earn a good living as an RN, even if you do not get accepted into the Masters Program. Positions in PA programs, while less competitive than MD programs, are still very competitive and there is no guarantee that once you earn your bachelors degree in Human Biology at UCSD you will get into a PA program. If that were to be the case you would have ended up paying a lot more money for an essentially worthless bachelors degree.

If I were you, I will go ahead and accept UCSD’ s offer even if it doesn’t have a nursing program. You may ask me the reason, I would just say ‘’ it is UCSD’’ :)
