SEAP- Science and Engineering Apprentice Program?

I was wondering if this is a worthwhile program, and if anyone has done it. If you’ve never heard of it basically it’s 8-week summer program where you intern at a government facility like the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. I just wanted to see if anyone has done it and what there experience was like.

I was going to apply but because of my dual citizenship status, I’m barred from applying to almost all of the labs. :-/ Now, I’m having second thoughts…

I decided to apply anyway. I did some more googling and realized it wasn’t something I wanted to pass up on. Anyone else applying?

@Hamlon I am!

I did this last year and it is totally worth doing if you can get in. You get paid more than a typical high schooler working the summer and it is great to put on college applications and resumes. For a lot of students at my base, this lines them up for jobs after college too. Great way to start networking.

Just wondering though, has anyone heard anything back yet? I heard back by 1/22 back in 2016… I’m wondering if Trump’s new administration and the hiring freeze is making the decisions late or if I just wasn’t invited back lol…

@jessegoesrawr I just recieved my acceptance to the naval lab in DC. Have you heard back? Where did you apply (if your comfortable)?

@EmmilyIsSunshine Hi, I also applied to the naval academy in DC, but I didn’t get any responses. Is email the only way you hear back, and do they release all their responses at once?

@Atl8956 They sent me an acceptance email, however it may be that the different departments of the NRL, send emails at different times. I would suggest calling the lab tomorrow after school, leave your name, info, let them know who you are and tell them how much you want this opportunity. Also, ask for a person to contact with further questions. Sorry for the bad formatting, in writing this after 2 essays, so it has kind of went down hill. I hope you receive acceptance, I would enjoy at least partially knowing someone before I go somewhere 8 hours away.
