Has anyone applied to SEAP (Science & Engineering Apprenticeship Program) to attend the Navy labs in either San Diego (SPAWAR), or Monterey, CA (Naval Postgraduate School) for summer 2013? Just sent in application and hoping for the best. Curious how many applicants applied this year, in total!?!

Applied for the program, but only for the base in Charleston. Any idea of when we should hear results?

The response I received when I emailed the labs directly indicated that the results are typically released at the end of February or early March. Several years ago, they didn’t release until April or May, but they have improved the process the past couple of years.

I applied for Annapolis and NRL DC did anyone else apply for these labs what were your qualifications?

^I like your CC login name! We are a Christian family on the west coast. Qualifications included: 3.99 GPA (UW), 5 Honors and 4 AP’s through Junior year, two short-term summer programs @ universities to study C++ and Advanced Physics. Fairly limited research and no related job experience. Extracurricular activities in high school are less ‘techy’, but show some leadership (i.e student government, YoungLife, and 3 varsity sports). How about you?

Nice to see another Christian!! East Coast all the way!! Here are my summzrized stats
Grades: 4.00 GPA (UW)
In soph year my school offers no AP’s but I am in all honors (6 honors)
Extracirucular: 1 Varsity Sport was Captian of Science Olympiad Laywer in Mock Trial, Band…
I have an internship at a local teaching hospital. I intern in the Pathology Lab. I have been overseas on service projects. No Job experience. Many school awards.
Research: Currently working on a very in depth project studying contact lenses and the micrbiology around the eye. I am working with multiple mentors. Still working on geeting sufficent lab space. Also I am in National Honor Society. Thoose are just a few of my stats… I do not feel very competitve for this program.

We just received an email from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) location in Monterey, CA, with an invite to attend an in-person MEET & GREET session with Mentors/Professors from various disciplines next week.

Also, we learned that over 5,000 applications were opened this year nationwide, but less than 1/2 of them were properly completed and/or were not qualified applicants. The odds of being selected as one of the 250 students, while still very low, are much better when competing with 2-3k qualified applicants instead of 5,000+.

Has anyone else heard from other SEAP labs yet?

That makes me disappointed I have not received anything yet

Every SEAP lab does things differently so keep your head up. With NPS it seems to be only a first phase introduction of sorts, which is somewhat of an informal interview. No applicants have been firmly selected yet and it might take another 4-6 weeks before final selections are made.

I know that some SEAP labs invite applicants for in-person interviews, some conduct phone interviews, and some just confirm selections via email. Again, they are all different and there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme-or-reason on timing, processing, selection, etc. from one lab to the next. At the end of the day, I suppose that the mentors/professors have to feel comfortable with the students who are the ‘best fits’ for their respective programs.

I wouldn’t be concerned if you haven’t heard anything yet. Your stats and EC’s look promising. Based on what we’ve heard from years’ past, most labs don’t notify applicants – with either good news or bad – until end of February or early March. Stay positive!

How do you know so much about the internship?

WorkforJesus - Most of what I know has come from reading all of the CollegeConfidential threads about SEAP. I also exchanged a couple of emails with two of the labs.

Laptolin - The Navy SEAP program deadline is over, but there are still some others that are pretty solid that pay interns:

Good luck!

Got contacted from a professor at SPAWAR (SSC Pacific) this week. Did a phone interview and now have to wait to hear the outcome. Also attended the Meet & Greet session at Naval Postgraduate School with about 20 other SEAP applicants. Have to wait on that outcome too.

Has anyone else been contacted?

We received an email from Army SEAP, which I presume all other Navy SEAP applicants did as well. When I replied to that email, I was told that no decisions for Navy SEAP have been made yet, but all applicants will know the first full week of March.

Has anyone else been contacted for interviews from SEAP labs? Nothing new to report here outside of initial contacts a couple of weeks ago.

PLEASE POST IF YOU’VE BEEN CONTACTED BY ANY SEAP LABS!

Waiting for a contact from monterey, ca. Will post if I hear something.

^Which SEAP lab in Monterey? We visited the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey and hope to make it in there. We are supposed to know anytime between this Friday and next Friday!

Yep still waiting here on the east coast for NRL DC and Annapolis anyone else on the East Coast get anything??

Nope, I applied for Bethesda and Silver Spring. Still nothing…

I applied to the one in Patuxent River, MD and the one in Lakehurst, NJ. I’ll post back when I get a reply

My three choices are 1. Kang, Wei
2. Chung, Timothy
3. Hooper, Joe
They will call or send email?? Hope i can make it.

Nothing from the Charleston base so far
