I’m an entrepreneur trying to build a tool that would help prospective students search through all the MT programs in the country. It would be a database filled with all the schools, but you could filter them based on specific unique criteria (like audition vs. non audition, study abroad programs or type of campus) I’ve built an outline of what I think would be helpful, but would love to run it by parents who are just starting out on this journey! Anyone up to discuss and give feedback who’s just starting out? I’m not selling anything! Just want to hear whats most helpful from parents starting the journey.
This is a great idea! “College finder” websites like BigFuture usually don’t have enough criteria to narrow down MT choices, so having an MT-specific platform would be a very useful tool… especially those of us who live far away and can’t afford to fly all over willy-nilly without doing research first.
We’re in senior year and almost done with this process, but I’d be happy to give some feedback.
@lookImadeahat - Just an fyi, your idea already exists. A couple of theatre moms created software just for that purpose. It’s called Star. They are at theatreadvisors.com. They don’t coach students but have listings of like 325 MT/Acting schools and everything you would want to know about them.
thanks @stagedoormama! I will check it out!
Star is exactly the “college finder” tool for anyone going through this process. We purchased a 2 year subscription for my son so he could start his research MT programs during junior year and it is an amazing tool! the site gives you direct links to each school’s website to access everything you need to know about the schools, audition requirements, scholarships etc. to do your research. There are also tools to help with building their resume, keeping track of their applications, storing their audition media files, password vault (this was huge since you’ll have multiple passwords to remember), comparing school offers, calendar to keep track of auditions scheduled etc…I high recommend it!
