I have been arduously looking for a good college match for myself. My top major choice would be in the physical sciences, physics and chemistry being at the top. I would like to go to a research university with good teaching credentials. MIT is my dream pick but my likely hood of getting in is slim, so Im looking for a 2nd choice. Im a current senior, my gpa is a 4.1 as of now. I have taking the most difficult classes my schools has to offer. I dont have many EC though. Which college would you all recommend me too?

Caltech, Carnegie Mellon, Rice. I guess they’re not matches though.

Matches might be Case Western, RPI.

Posting your SAT/ACT scores would also be helpful.

I have yet to take my ACT, Im slated to take it the 24.

Well, if you’re aiming for MIT, I’d suggest setting a goal of getting a 33+.

Alright, that seams like a plausible score to get.

Maybe Casse Western? Very generous with merit money.

I have heard good things about RPI, what is the college like?

Check out Olin - a very interesting school in Wellesley, MA.

^ Isn’t Olin in Needham, MA?

I will not be going into engineering if that helps.

Id like to attend a smaller school, was never a big city person. I got a 29 on my ACT recently. What is the best research/prue science oriented college or university I could get in?

Yeah, you’re going to want an LAC.

I’d take a look at Bucknell, Lafayette, Union, Colgate, U Rochester, Case Western, and Lehigh

I don’t understand. In one post you say “I have yet to take my ACT, Im slated to take it the 24.” yet, in another post you say, "I got a 29 on my ACT recently. "

Was that a practice ACT? If so, it’s unlikely that getting an ACT of 33+ is likely. Do you realize that is higher than 99 percentile? Why haven’t you taken any exams yet? It would seem like a student with goals of attending a top school would have taken at least one ACT and/or SAT in their junior year.

Have you taken any SATs? what was your PSAT score?

^No, the 24 referred to was the test date.

^^^

I know THAT!

But, today she posted, “I got a 29 on my ACT recently”

So… is she now saying that her score from that Oct 24th test date is an ACT 29? Would she have her score back yet?

If she now has a score of 29 on the ACT, then that will affect her choices. An ACT 29 is still good, but it’s not Cal Tech, etc.

Also…what is her major going to be? I know it won’t be engineering. Health-related maybe?

I got a 31 on my practice ACT test and I ended up with a 34 on the actual ACT :)

It’s doubtful she got her scores back already. It takes about 2 1/2 weeks according to an ACT web site.

Sorry if that was a bit confusing, I took the ACT on the 24 and my best guess is I got a 29 on it, perhaps a 30. My major is going to be nuclear or quantum physics, though I skill havnt totaly ruled out the rest of the divisons of phsics.

physics** drat was even looking right at my textbook.

Well, if you think your score is going to be an ACT 29, then that will affect your choices. You need to look for some mid-range colleges. Those top ones are looking for students in the 31+ range.
