Searching for a job after being kicked out of grad school?

So, here's how the story goes...

I was in my first semester of grad school. I made the stupid mistake of setting my alarm clock for the wrong time, and slept through one of my final exams. Right after I woke up, I emailed the professor to ask if I could make it up (I called first, but got no answer), and the professor said no. The exam was worth 25% of the course grade, so I'm going to fail that course. And from what I understand, that means I'll be kicked out once the grades are reported.

Even though I deeply miss my family, and I'm very depressed because of all this, I think I'd like to try to stay in this city to find a job. My small hometown has almost no IT jobs (which are the kind of jobs I'd like to get), but there are actual IT companies here. I'll need to find a decent paying job within two months to be able to pay rent though.

The problem is I don't know what to put on my resume. I can't think of any way to make getting kicked out of school look positive. And explaining what happened wouldn't exactly showcase my responsibility. If I omitted my semester at this school, I don't know how I'd explain being in this city; ~1000 miles away from everything else on my resume. Anybody have any advice on how to handle something like this on a resume, and (hopefully) job interviews?
