Seat Deposit Returned

How can I get back my seat deposit from a T4 law school. I should never have sent it in but money is money. I am not sure what I was thinking when I even applied there but I want it back. Should I go with a sob story or outright tell them that they are a botom-of-the-barrel school and in no way will I attend.

You can't get your deposit back: it's non-refundable. You can refuse to go, and they'll just take someone else off the waitlist, but the seat deposit money is gone.

Don't go with a sob story: the legal community is very small, and someone along the way will know that you aren't telling the truth. Bad move.

What if I threatened to sue Roger Williams if they didn't return it and even if it was non-refundable? Would they balk?

You haven't even sat through your first torts class, and you want to sue! I see a future P.I. lawyer in the making.

Sure, you could sue. It might be hell to pass the background check for the bar.

Don't know if they should balk - but they should. You knew when you sent in the deposit that it wasn't refundable. Unless they somehow acted in bad faith (promising financial aid/grants which did not materialize, for example), then you don't have a case.

I sounds like you are willing to lie to them or to insult them. I think the legal profession already has enough people willing to behave that way. Possibly you could send them a nice letter politely asking for your money back and if they say no, drop the matter and leave it as a lesson learned.
