At my college I was told that I was academic dismissed because of my low GPA. I wrote an appeal and what I talked about how skipped class to much, my focus wasn’t on school, and I wasn’t doing all of my work. I then told them the things I would do like go to my academic advisor, go to the learning commons, etc. I did not go to my academic advisor but I did go to the library to study more. My college said I could only take 5 classes and the final grades I received were an A, B, D, D, and an F. One of my Ds is suppose to be a C because in canvas my final letter grade is a C but the student center says it is a D. So I’ve emailed my professor asking if it is a C or a D. If it is a C and my final grades should be A, B, C, D, and F. Would I still be academically dismissed? Also, since this is my second time being academically dismissed I can write another appeal letter. What should I put in my appeal and what are my chances of this being to stay in college? Please help.
I have to ask…you SAID you would be going to your academic advisor in your FIRST appeal…but you didn’t do so. Are you hoping the appeals committee will, over look this?
No, I know they will look and see that. I’m going to call my academic advisors receptionist and do a phone call meeting with her so we can figure out a plan for me and to set up a monthly meeting.
If anyone could please help me. I had to get a 1.70 gpa in order for me to continue but this semester I got a 1.698. If I write this second appeal and tell them how I just needed those 2 points to make a that 1.7 do I have a chance? I’m desperate.
No one here can tell you how successful your appeal might be. It will depend on any number of things–the school’s policy, the way you present your case, how badly the school wants your tuition, etc. And frankly, it’s a little late in the game to be “desperate”, since you didn’t do what you promised to do and didn’t work hard enough to get better grades. Even if you are successful in appealing the second suspension (which I doubt, but who knows), those two terrible grades–one D and one F–suggest you really aren’t ready for college. I think it’s time to step back, take some time off, mature a lot, and decide what you really want out of life and what you’re prepared to do to get it.
I think what @thumper1 is trying to say is you didn’t follow through with your plans that you stated you would do in your first appeals letter, and that will most likely not be looked upon favorably when you request a second appeal. You need to check the appeals process at your school to see if a second appeal is even a possibility . Were you put on academic probation after your previous semester ? If so, and you didn’t bring your grades up to the required level, I’m not sure that they will extend your probation.
It might be time to step back and look at the big picture. Do you want to be in college? Are you in the right major? Do you like your classes but they’re just too hard?
From the outside it appears that it might not be worth fighting to remain on your current path, and you may want to consider a different school, a different major, or taking a break for a while to sort things out. Failing or almost failing 60% of your classes says that you’re getting very little out of your educational experience not to mention the money invested.
