Ii just got an email that me and 22 other kids on long island are requested to have a second interview. Is this a good sign? I know long isalnd is very competitive for admissions and that there are many more than 23 applying this year so I wonder if this means something.

It means you haven't been rejected yet, so it's a good sign. It probably means that you are borderline but they are more interested in you than others, so they want to find out more about you. That's just a guess though.

It probably means you all are on the bubble when it comes to admissions. Harvard wouldn't bother arranging a second interview unless adcoms were seriously considering you for admission.

Is this for all applicants, or just EA deferees?

My son still hasn't had a first interview, but one is tenatively set up for this Thurs. Does anyone else have this late of an interview? Is this going to be a problem with the reg. decision schedule?

I just had an interview last week. I hope my interviewer will send in his report in time (I think the deadline for interview report is mid March or so, so don't worry much, manyhats) and really really hope that such a late interview'll not affect admissions review of my app.

G'luck to everyone!

second!! wow man... i have not even been called for the first!! but then again, soemone told me my chances are Zero unless the adcom is DRUNK...he might as well be rite...:(

Hey neha1, maybe you should initiate contact with the interviewer in your area. That's what I did.

wow this second interview sure puts alot of pressure on a student!!!

Long Island is a super-organized region: almost an admissions empire unto itself. They have substantial input as to who makes it and who doesn't. The whole docket is made available to them.

So would you think that a decent number of these 23 kids who were selected will be accepted????

Yes, probably over the regular acceptance rate... they're showing interest.

oh luckystar you always make my day lol . i just sent you another pm so check it out.

If my interviewer is the head of the Schools and Scholarships Committee (LI) and said she hoped that I would receive a large envelope in April, should that mean anything?

No. The ultimate decision is left up to the admissions comittee.

hey just.a.thought
thing is harvard has listed singapopre as not having interviews so i was not concerned. however, i have found out of a few ppl who Have been offered interview in singapore despite them sayin they dont conduct in singapore. i have tried contacting harvard but to no avail. out of those few who had interview, i only know one personally but he does not have their contact no. and is out of country at the moment.. i think the process here is selective and he (my friend who was offered) believes so too :(

Of course, being an international student, you are at a disadvantage (on top of the already disadvantageous applicant pool). All you can do is perhaps write an additional essay, send in another recommendation - show who you are (where you might think an interview would show how you are)

Do you think if you're an EA deferred from Long Island and didn't get this second interview, it pretty much means they're not interested?

the woman from harvard told me that this interview is for both early action applicants and regular decision. She says that about 1/3 of the 23 selected will be accepted. Whoever has not been contacted is either a clear admit or rejected already since all the sub commitees met already.

wow, that means I'm already in the reject pile...... i'm from socal though
