i know there's no major secret society at columbia, but are there even any rumors of them on campus? is there anything like them at all

there is an exclusive coed fraternity/sorority for primarily rich manhattinites and somewhat rich kids in general.....connection and $$$ are the key to getting in

is that really it? are the scholar programs viewed as things similar to the power/influence that secret societies have? and when do they select scholars admitted RD anyway

they already selected the scholars. You are told if you are a scholar at the same time as you acceptance.

Columbia's 'Societies' aren't secret. St. Anthony's Hall has the rich-cocaine reputation. In their place are a bunch of old off-kilter student groups you'll probably run into.

Not one bit.

There are at least two Secret Societies at Columbia. They are mostly composed of campus leaders. I believe they have their initiations in the crypt at St. Paul's Chapel. They are excellent for networking after graduation.

What are the scholars programs? I wasn't aware Columbia had any.

ptribecca - what societies would these be?

Achilleus, I'm sorry I can't divulge that information. Only kidding. They're the Nacoms and the Sachems.

"The named Scholars supported by the Scholars & Fellowships Office are selected by the Office of Admissions when they submit their applications. Scholars are chosen for their intellectual pursuits, extracurricular achievements and promise for future growth, potential, and exploration. Hailing from diverse academic and ethnic backgrounds, they come together to form a multidisciplinary and multicultural community that enriches both their personal lives and campus community."

John Jay scholars are CC students, C Prescott Davis scholars are SEAS students, and Kluge scholars are minority students.
