What the hell were you doing there shoebox? I hope you were there to protest against the racist Shadows.

Annnddd, tenniscraze comes along and kills the thread with the typical "everyone's not equal because of this group, and the only reason I'm stating this is because I feel screwed"

i always wondered about those rotunda burning ppl, i mean shouldn't it be obvious who is in it when you see a little rotunda burning on the lawn? lol
if you already know so much about uva you should def consider trying out for uguides. they offer a course lase 152 which you proly know most of!!

tenniscraze, by the same right that allows you to dislike the purple shadows allows them to exist. When you call for their eradication, you call for the eradication of free speech. I dont like what they stand for either.

Tenniscraze, what does the world owe you?

Wow, I just got in from summer travel, what a great thread! I never knew any of this. When is TJ's birthday?--

apr 13... are you really that incapable of looking it up on wikipedia though? -.-;;

Chill, hazelorb. It will surprise you how many people don't know how to utilize the internet for anything beyond myspace.

You know. I've been away for awhile, in Europe, and am tired. I am well versed with the internet, thank you very much. I do not need instruction.
I thought I could rely on fellow students to answer a simple question without being insulted. Is there harm in casually asking when TJ was born? I had a happy feeling asking a simple question that I knew you all could promptly respond to--Ugh. I got spit in the face.
First the insult was from hazelorb, then when I thought maybe someone was civil, I was insulted by UVA Malex. WHat's with everyone's attitude.
What a poor welcome to UVA.
Please be nice. People new to UVA are reading, and depending on you all.
If you profess to have pride in the University, then please show it.

I'm sorry, powderpuff for the unintentional and indirect insult. hazelorb gets testy when people ask those kinds of questions on CC so I tried to "calm her down." I was wrong to say that comment as you could have taken offense, but I know many people who don't use informative tools like search engines to find out about stuff. Some just wiki and stop there if there is nothing on what they are looking for. It was a blanket comment that was for those types of people, not you in particular.

Never question my pride for the University as I never would for you.

Apology accepted.

That was cute.

And i've looked into the guides already, and I think I may do it. It would be fun and I'd love to work with the admissions office a bit, so it may be my ticket in. Someone else said it'd be a good resume padder, but whatever, that's not why i'd do it.

shoebox, becoming involved with UGuides is very difficult. Out of several hundred who apply each semester, fewer than 30 are selected. If you're interested in working with the Office of Admissions, I suggest becoming involved with the Virginia Ambassadors. They run things like Days on the Lawn and the high school visits program. I'm part of a group that gives information sessions on saturdays in the spring.

Hmm...I should look into all of the options then I suppose. I'm getting wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow, so I doubt I'll be around much tomorrow, but I'll look Thursday and get back to you if I can't find anything.

i tried to think of a less insulting way to phrase it, but i couldnt. i just think it takes less effort to type 'thomas jefferson' into wikipedia than whatever you wrote out for us here, lol. i actually think it's ruder of you to think that we have no uva pride (um, have you read any posts by either of us? we LOVE uva) because you... well again i cant think of a nice way to phrase it so i'll just stop there. in real life i really am a nice person; however, questions which delegate me to the same role as a search engine annoy me like malex said.

whatever............
Advice: when people ask questions that annoy you, walk away.
I'm walking away now.

I knew a three page thread would not be full with at least some ridiculous derail...

cav, why is becoming a UGuide so difficult? Is it just because of the sheer number of peoply applying for few positions or is the application process hard?

I know that Ross Baird, the outgoing president, was one.

The Uguides have a very rigorous application process. You have to study EVERY known fact about the University and Jefferson, follow multiple tours to get the feel of giving a tour, and give a tour with your own flair as your final test. Not something for the lighthearted.
