Seeking advice for cell phone use in France

Our D will be studying abroad in Paris this fall. I just talked to Sprint about getting her service there, and it was very expensive. Any other suggestions as to how to handle it? She would mostly need internet and texting.

Check out this deal from ATT, not sure how it compares to Sprint.
She can purchase a month-to-month SIM card (or just a sim and refill hours when needed) and a very cheap crappy phone. If you have a smartphone, you can jailbreak it and just buy the appropriate SIM card. They would sell them at service provider stores (not sure what is in Paris though).

Sorry for double post (can’t edit posts on phone), but if she primarily uses it for Internet and texting, I would certainly recommend a jailbroken smartphone. They might have plans that are data only, and she can use texting apps on the phone to text foreign numbers.

Thanks for the ideas. We’ll look into it.
