Hello CC users, I really appreciate you guys taking the time out of your day to aid a HS junior with no clue about selecting a list of colleges. I’ve been generally looking at schools from the point of view of probably majoring in political science/french literature. I’m very interested in pursuing speech and debate and study abroad while in college.
A little bit more about me:
Parents Income: around ($85,000); My parents are willing to contribute $20,000 a year to whichever university I choose.
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Caucasian
State of residence: Virginia (near Richmond)
High School: Public (decently competitive- sends around 1-3 to ivy league and around 50-80 to good/top schools)
GPA: 3.76 UW/ 4.26 W Rank: Top 10 ACT: 26
Extracurricularly, i’m very focused around french ( have studied abroad on an exchange program, numerous awards for nationally recognized french contests and 4 year officer of the club at our school ). I also really enjoy speech and debate in which I’ve obtained numerous awards and hold state awards for Impromptu speaking. I also have numerous other extracurriculars, but they aren’t relative to what I see myself doing in university. Overall, i’m looking for city-based schools as well as a few suburban that have great programs in french/poli sci and that hold a diverse student body that are strongly academically motivated yet not extremely toxic. I recently toured William and Mary and felt a little turned off by the lack of a social scene, however, I felt Wake Forest had too much of a social scene. Therefore, I would like to attend a school where greek life isn’t overly dominate, but where a social scene is prevalent and available. I’m also open to LAC’s, private, and state schools!
My list so far:
George Washington University @ Columbian (Planning on ED plus test optional)
James Madison University
NYU ( Still unsure as I know it will be a reach)
University of Richmond
George Mason University
I really appreciate any suggestions you guys can make; if their is any more information that you guys need to know please let me know :).
Thanks in advance!
