We watched James Bond movie Quantum of Silence (it was OK, but pretty violent and not nearly as good as Casino Royal which will also leave Netflix on 8/30). Also watched Chinatown, a 1974 classic starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway that I had never seen (leaving on 8/31).
Time Traveler’s Wife will be leaving on 8/31. I liked the book but not sure if it could be captured well in a movie. Anybody seen it?
We decided to go ahead and watch Time Traveler’s Wife, since it will disappear from Netflix. I agree the book was better, but my husband and I both enjoyed it (with me able to explain some of the confusing back/forth in time confusions based on my memory of book.
Another movie we liked, but which was less rich than the book, was A Man Called Ove. At the moment, I don’t think it’s free on any streaming services. I was able to recommend to friends before it disappeared, and they texted “Thanks” afterward because they liked it too.
We saw Jungle Cruise in 3D today at the theater - just us and 4 others in there on a Wednesday at 4:40pm. We thought it was fun mindless entertainment - nowhere near as good as the last two Jumanjis or Central Intelligence (other Rock movies), but still quite fun with some interesting twists (since we don’t read much about movies prior to seeing them).
Anyone watching Nicole Kidman,et.al in Nine Perfect Strangers?
I read the book on which it’s based. Often I am disappointed when shows like this diverge from the movie!
Last night I watched Reminiscence on HBO Max. High style film noir, but I think it’s a waste to put Hugh Jackman in a movie and not have him sing and dance!
Interesting… I have read reviews one way or the other, and it has a favorable % on RT!
My favorite version of the classic fairytale is Ever After. It is rated PG-13 due to “strong language” - the only instance of that is when Leonardo refers to something as horse “manure.” YKWIM.
I watched “Worth” this morning on Netflix. Michael Keaton, Stanley Tucci, Amy Ryan in story of Kenneth Feinberg & 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. I really enjoyed it and would recommend. However, I would also recommend reading about the parts that were dramatized and not historically accurate after watching in this article: Worth true story: Fact vs. fiction in Netflix movie about 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.
I loved Come From Away on Apple +tv. It was touching and sad and funny and tragic and hopeful. The cast did a stellar job constantly changing characters.
