Have just gotten my card and have seen It, Brad’s Status, Flat liners, American Made, Mother!, Wind River, Big Sick, Victoria and Abdul, Mr. Marston and His Wonder Women,Blade Runner in as many days.
I meet friends, my parents, my grandparents at the movies and see their choice of flick without hurting my wallet or theirs.
So many good movies coming soon…
I found Victoria and Abdul a little dull. It was not offensive, so a good movie for a mom.
Just saw The Mountain Between Us. Adventure. Peril. Excitement. Chills. Old fashioned kind of movie. I recommend if you don’t mind being on the edge of your seat.
Saw Blade Runner 2049 this afternoon and the original Blade Runner this evening. We saw the Director’s Cut of the latter which does not have the voice over narration and doesn’t have an explicit happy ending. I think it holds up quite well, still visually stunning, the plot is still pretty minimal, and I have no idea what Edward James Olmos’ role is supposed to be. The sequel is equally beautiful, but I found the fight scenes tiresome. There’s some handwaving in the plot at the end that really annoyed me.
Watched Megan Leavey last night, decent enough tear jerker.
We saw Blade Runner 2049 Friday night and enjoyed it. It got a bit slow in parts, but overall we liked the story and it was visually stunning as @mathmom said.
Saw quite a few movies on our 18 hours of plane rides these last few flights, including “The Immortal Life is Hwnrietta Lacks” with Oprah playing the daughter, Deborah. It was very moving.
Also saw “The Big Sick” which was moving in a different way but not as tempestuous as the first movie. Saw dome light fluff movies as well.
Forgot to write about seeing Lady Bird last week, it is amaaazing and I highly recommend it. A really funny and emotional story about a girl’s senior year of high school and the passive-aggressive-but-deep-down-loving relationship she has with her mom.
An oldie but a goodie - re-watched Walk The Line. Great acting from Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon and so much chemistry between the two.
Spouse and I saw the new Thor movie last night, I guess I’m not as classy as some of you here.
Dunno, Jen, Thor has great reviews in rottentomatoes. I may sneak it in.
@lookingforward If you liked Guardians of the Galaxy, it has the same comedic, lighthearted approach to the genre.
@JenJenJenJen I’m sure we’ll see the new Thor movie, but probably at Thanksgiving when the kids are here.
Saw Wonderstruck
Didn’t read anything and so had no preconceived ideas or notions about the cast, script or director.
Just go and be ready for a good movie with no car chases or robots.
Saw The Florida Project yesterday with two friends, one who’d read reviews, but I went in clueless.
From a technical/professional reviewer standpoint, I’m sure it was excellent, with acting that deserves awards! But for regular moviegoers who just immerse ourselves in the story, it was devastating. It ripped my heart out.
One friend was crying at the end. The other apologized for having recommended it. — I don’t regret seeing it, as it opened a whole new world in my mind. But it was so, so intense. Be warned. I’d love to hear from others who saw it or who do go see it.
Saw Goodbye, Christopher Robin.
Cautionary tale of the price of fame on childhood and the effects of PTSD on those who served in WWII.
Not for younger than teens because of the serious themes.
Sat near a kid around 7 years old and she was bored and wanted to go home about 20 minutes in.
Interesting tidbit I saw on BBC - because Disney owns the rights to the book, apparently there are no quotes from the book in that movie. Did you notice that or is it not true?
Other aspects from the book make up for the lack of quotations from the book.
Good to know. This is the BBC review:

@rebeccar Thanks for your glowing review of Lady Bird. I organize a monthly movie group and chose this a few weeks ago as the movie for next weekend based on a few really good reviews before it opened.
I also saw Goodbye Christopher Robin and liked it OK. Definitely not for kids! While there may not have been quotes from the books, I did learn lot about AA Milne that I wasn’t aware of before. It was definitely a lot more depressing than I expected.
