@eyemamom – thanks for mentioning Please Stand By – I was not familiar with it. Sounds good!
Anyone see a preview for Love, Simon? Teen boy with a big secret that no one can find out – he’s gay. The premise felt a little dated. Also saw so many action figure previews I thought I was in the wrong theatre (again).
^I think it’s based on the novel Simon and the Homosapiens Agenda, whereby a cyberbully threatens to “out” Simon, who’s not comfortable people knowing he’s gay. The preview seems to focus on the part where Simo’s insecurities rather than the rest of the novel.
Finally saw The Post. Loved the storytelling, the performances, the historical setting. Not innovative in the way Get Out or Florida Project are, but definitely significant and important. Loved seeing the old way of making papers, with the letter lead things. (I used to be in a school where we had a little printing press with the ink rolls and everything. It was incredibly annoying to set the text but also something that made you proud for that very reason, because when you conquered the difficulty and pain-in-the-neck process you had an achievement. Looking back, that may have been the whole point ).
You are right about Love, Simon preview…the trailer looked like a stale Lifetime movie from 15 years ago.
Everyday movie has a clever premise…a teen girl falls in love with another teen who wakes up in a different teen aged body everyday who then seeks her out for another day together…the girl never knows what her true love looks like…unconditional acceptance theme.
A fresh take because a variety of teens in size, skin color, gender are cast as the soul seeking the girl out…hopefully, the movie will be as good as the trailer.
15:17 to Paris…Clint Eastwood’s movie where he uses the actual men reenact their heroism.
The guys do their best but it just shows that acting is a craft and skill and amateur thespians are robotic and stiff.
Lots of retired military in the audience who clapped at the end of the movie.
The train sequence and the real footage of the award ceremony are the highlights of the movie…the events leading up to the train zzzz
Nice to have the heroes’ real families in the film and reenactments with the French Prez…
Clint loads up the tiny parts with actors you would recognize…the middle school principal, PE teacher, History teacher and the moms of Spencer and Alex…
@beerme. I agree, I usually like Clint Eastwood movies but I found this one rather dull, I didn’t like the flash forwards and some of the editing was off. I thought the ‘actors’ did well considering it was scripted. I did like the re-enactment of the award presentation but I thought Clint could have added a little background on the British hero who also helped on the train.
For those who missed Wonder in the theater, one can see this overlooked Julia Roberts film on DVD now. Excellent screenplay and ensemble cast based on the children’s book.
@onthewestfence - DH and I just rented Wonder from the Redbox yesterday - we thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn’t realize that the kid who played Auggie , Jacob Tremblay, was also the kid in Room.
@3puppies glad you enjoyed it. it’ll stand the test of time and be the one people talk about while asking why it was overlooked. great family film. it’s nominated for best makeup.
Like Sheldon Cooper, finishing 3 knocks…I viewed the last of the 50 Shades trilogy.
While the first movie was at anticipated because of the best seller, this was was just painful…pun intended.
Not worth your time to sit in a theater, watching cringe worthy and laugh out loud terrible dialogue.
The groups of women in the audience guffawed, made funny quips and were more entertaining that those unsexy sex scenes on the screen.
Lots of SMH…not S & M…
@beerme couldn’t agree more. wife thought dornan couldn’t act, the story line was weak, and audi should have shared top billing with the product placement/fast but not furious scenes. it didn’t even show anastasia shift gears while attempting to getting away from the durango.
I personally had an awesome experience watching 50 Shades last night. We had a really good theater, the whole place was rolling with laughter. The whole thing was hilariously bad. Can’t believe they dared touch that Paul McCartney song.
50 Shades was No.1 in box office last week awaiting for Black Panther so thought merited mention…
The sexiest objects of desire were the cars.
JD’s singing of Maybe I’m Amazed was met with hisses…
Anastasia should have shot everyone…oh, no…Zombie 50 Shades…
Dornan is a good actor. See The Fall for proof. (never had any interest in the 50 shades stupidity but guessing it made him a lot of money).
Wonder is a great family film indeed. Not academy awards great but it will endure, be used in primary curricula, be watched as a family for a long time, etc.
Agreed, Jamie D can act up to the quality of the scripts.
JD said it was The Fall that got him the 50 Shades gig after Charlie Hunnam dropped out to do the dismal King Arthur movie that did not make bank like the 50.
@doschicos - “Are we actually having a discussion of 50 Shades crapola on a GOOD movies thread?”
I love you.
Some of my screenwriter friends were saying that MoviePass can’t continue (they must be losing money). Anyone see any change in their contract or options? It seems like such a great deal.
MoviePass dropped a group of really large AMC theaters a few weeks ago, including one in my area. But I can still use it at a smaller AMC right by my house. I had no problem getting a MoviePass ticket this week to 15:17 to Paris. I paid $89 for a year MP membership through Costco in December. So I’m money ahead after 8 movies. The plan does seem too good to be true so my strategy is to go often now to recoup my investment. If anything changes that keeps me from using this particular theater, the pass will become worthless to me.
