Selecting a Major

Hi,

I'm going to be a sophomore at Virginia Tech this fall - and am pursuing med school. Currently my major is in Biology - but after talking to students in med school and going through statistics, I'm thinking that choosing a different/easier/more interesting major and ending up with a higher GPA (while still completing the med school science requirements) might be more beneficial.

"Other"??

I am interested in Music and also languages - and was hoping I could get some feedback on this from CC. Major in Music and Double Minor in a Science/Language maybe?

What are that Advantages/Disadvantages of double minors or double majors?

Any comments are much appreciated.

Double major would require long hours in the library if you are planning to do pre med reqs also. I'm majoring in management along with a minor in french and management information systems along with premed. Still long hours in the library but i found my pace and work habits so I can keep up with it. Double minors I believe won't be as a big of an issue because it's only like 10 more credit hours, which you can easily do your senior or junior year.

I don't think you should double minor. If you are interested in a subject, don't tie yourself down with the requirements that come with a minor. Instead, pick and choose as many classes in it as you want/can fit into your schedule. Random example: An interest in history will be clear from a bunch of history classes showing up on your transcript. Nobody ever needs to know that you skipped the minor's European history requirement to free up more time in your schedule.
