selection of fall classes

-IHUM
-French/french lit.
-another lang. course
-some music course

ahh, the loveliness of being a humanities major :D

static/cardina09:
does the math 21 series fulfill the premed requirements? ( math is just not my thing but unfortunatly statistics doesnt cut it for med schools!)

hmm the international health/infectious diseases track is very appealing. i am hoping that i get the "social" aspect thru the public policy major...

p.s.
i hope i get 'visions' for ihum!

I had a similar question earlier and this was the answer from a current student:

As far as I know, your AP score should satisfy the BioSci
prereqs. Actually,
pretty much anything would-- one thing you'll learn is that prereqs really don't
mean
anything at Stanford.

introductory seminars are soooo annoying to sign up for. you have to apply for them and than wait to find out if your admitted to the class. I really hope I dont do 3 applications for no reason during my first week ever at stanford

yes math 21 fulfills the premed req

not considering a math/science major does not unfortunately exempt me from having to take math/science classes, which is why i'm considering a chemistry class

there are other ways you can fulfill the sci/math requirements besides taking chem 31a or 31x.

hey, where did you guys see the info on intro sems? I got something at admit weekend from last year, but I don't remember getting anything for the coming year...am i missing something? :) i'm still sort of unwinding after a crazy senior year

Maybe it's just in the course catalog? I've been going through that lately, it's AWESOME. Except that I don't know if it'll be the same for this year or not, especially for intro sems... oh well.

i really wish I knew when my PWR was. than i can make a definite schedule right now.

yea me too

yay for SLE!
No PWR + IHUM!
=)

what classes are we required to take? do we have to do a math and a science course? sorry, my brain is like seriously messed after two months of A-Levels. or a month and a half.

-___-"

oh, and when do we get our timetables - during orientation?

yes i know there are other ways to fulfill the requirement, but i want to use chemistry to do it

anyway, back to my original question- which chemistry class would you gusy recommend for someone like me (i would place into the higher one with my 5 on the AP test but am not considering a major in science)

If you're not planning on majoring in science, just take the 31A and 31B sequence. You should breeze through it if you got a 5 on the AP. From what I've heard, 31X is ridiculously fast-paced and difficult. This past year was the first time that the course was given and apparently there have been a lot of complaints from students and parents that the course was too hard. Hopefully, they'll tone it down this coming year.

Okay. SO I was looking at courses yesterday and getting all excited... let's say I took SLE, Math 42 or 51, Physics 61 and that physics current research topics bit... how much of an absolute killer would that be for my first quarter? It comes out to 19 units, but I think it's only 3 classes that involve actual work, so...

It looks pretty hard.

The only problem is that the physics 60-series has a reputation of being DEATHLY hard. That on top of SLE, with the high level of reading, AND Math 51 would be way more than enough, I think. You don't want to destroy yourself your first quarter.

hmm to stressedoutsr, chem 33 is organic chemistry. That might be fun for you. i heard 31x is just accelerated ap chem all over again; the materials are cover in more depth.

wow that is HARSH entropic girl! I would suggest SLE, Physics 61, and a seminar. zephyr is right, the 60's series are tough.

Take it easy 1st quarter.

Yeah, but I've gotta get my math in... I know, it's crazy. I went through possible schedules today, and if I want to do SLE, physics major, AND get my premed requirements in (for three reasons: I want to know bio and chem too; my dad wants me to; and just in case I want to do an MSTP or something), it's INSANE. I got incredibly freaked out and almost wanted to switch to, like, philosophy and go to law school. ('Cause that's the easy way out, right?). Ugh. I guess I'm just gonna have to wait until I get there and TALK to someone (like my advisor..) -- physics is one of the relatively commonly cited premed majors, too, except that I don't know how I can get it to work and still have ANY space to breathe!

did u know philosophy majors score the highest on the MCAT?

philosophy might not be such a bad idea after all.
