There are two days named after me in my city?

Subjective Data:
Robotics- Participated for 10 years in various programs. Internationally recognized dozens of times. Last year, our team actually took home the first place trophy at an international competition. I’m president of the robotics club at our school, and helped raise thousands of dollars to send every single member to the competition. Hundreds of hours volunteering at different events to encourage STEM.

Youth and Government- Participated all 4 years of high school. Chaplain for junior and senior years. I also ran a state-wide campaign in front of thousands of people for an officer position and won! I have also had a large impact on my delegation, working extremely hard to change the dynamics of the program.

National Honor Society- I really like this story. Sophomore year, I was in NHS. We had one meeting the entire year. Junior year, I found out that the club advisor was dropping it. NHS almost died before it even hatched. I decided to take it over and see what I could do with the club. Without any precedent to follow, I recreated the club on an idea- to spark a passion for volunteering in the members. So I created two divisions- an individual project and a team project. For the individual project, I wanted people to finally have a motivation to pursue something that they might love to volunteer. I am happy to say that even during the summer, many members continued to volunteer with things varying from teaching programming to creating disabled sports leagues. For the group service project, we focus on the broad term of “helping people.” Weekly, I contact different organizations around the valley and bring NHS members to different events that they might never have even thought of. As the president/founder for 2 years, I am proud to say that our school’s NHS contains more than 60 members and continues to encourage true service in our city.

International Business Alliance Program- We work on solutions to help a small business owner in Nigeria. We’ve raised thousands of dollars and implemented many different solutions that have drastically improved the well being of our friend.

Youth Committee- Member since Sophomore year. Served as chair during my senior year while we worked on a project to establish No-Idling Zones in schools throughout the city.

Piano- Played for 10 years. Sadly to say, I am an average player because I have so many other commitments that do not allow me to practice as much as I can. I did receive a full scholarship to a very prestigious piano camp one summer.

Working- I work unpaid to help my family’s business. It’s almost every day in summer and on occasional weekends during the school year.

Volunteering at a Local Hospital- I’ve volunteered for two summers, and I plan to volunteer next summer. I love it.

My summers are spent working, volunteering, being a camp counselor, and attending different conferences.

Main Essays- All were very strong and centered around my very crazy, harsh, and interesting background. I don’t want to give too many details, and I also do not want to flatter myself, but my essay strongly depicts a background and passion similar to that of Malala Yousafzai. 10/10

Supplements- I wrote about different things such as my passion for change, my Y&G campaign, my failure to start a boy’s volleyball program in my school, and NHS. I am not sure about the execution of the essays, but I think they were mostly interesting. 7/10

Teacher Rec #1: 9/10
Teacher Rec #2: 7/10
Counselor Rec #1: 10/10
Additional Rec #1: 9/10
Interview(s): I did have interviews for every Ivy and UC Berkeley. Most interviewers seemed thoroughly impressed. If anywhere, this is where my passion for the brain really shone through. I expect to do huge things in Cognitive Neuroscience. Two of my interviewers stated that they could see me winning a Nobel Prize.

Financial Aid? Yes
Income Bracket? 80K
State? CA
Ethnicity? Asian
Gender? Male
Hooks? Single mother with two jobs. Also, a quote from one of my interviewer strongly encapsulates how I feel about my accomplishments: “You see a problem, and you fix it.”

Thank you.

As a college applicant myself, my opinion doesn’t retain too much credibility, but you sound like you have an outstanding background with a dynamic approach to creating positive, impactful change. I admire that! From a fellow Asian to another, I wish you the best of luck on your admissions experience- it seems like you have an excellent chance to land a spot in an elite institution. For the sake of my own curiosity, please keep in touch and update us on your admissions outcomes!

“There are two days named after me in my city?” How does that work? :((

Ok anyway, I’m pretty confident that you’ll get into all the UC’s. USC is a 50/50 chance; it’s holistic and unpredictable. All of the others are way too unpredictable, but you will probably get into at least one.

@wormholes

The City Council distinguished my efforts for the city and gave me a day two different times XD It’s pretty awesome!

Bump

I think it’s evident that you’ve made a strong impact on your community and that will set you apart in the process! For predictions:

Harvard: Waitlist
MIT: Reject
Yale: Waitlist
Columbia: Waitlist/Accept
UPenn: Waitlist/Accept
Duke: Accept
Georgetown: Accept
UC Berkeley: Accept
USC: Accept
UC Irvine: Accept
UC San Diego: Accept

Best of luck! Chance me back?

You have great stats! Harvard, MIT, Yale, Columbia, and UPenn are kind of a crapshoot for everyone due to their ~10% acceptance rates, so nothing is certain, of course, but I think you have a fair shot at getting into at least one of these schools.

Your chances at Duke, Georgetown, Cal, USC, Irvine, and UCSD are quite good. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into all of them.

Good luck!

@koreanstudent
Thank you!

@writergirl0316 I’m just a student who is currently waiting for application results so I don’t have a great knowledge of the whole process but I have a question. How would this guy not get in everywhere. His stats are great and he has probably the best ECs I’ve seen. I know the Ivies and MIT are selective and that he is an Asian male which makes it tough but still. Is it possible there are 1000-1500 better applicants than him out there? Genuine question.

Also, congrats to OP for all your work. I wish you luck in admissions.

@cr_02 No disrespect at all to OP, but the schools listed are so random that you can’t say anyone will get into all of them unless they’ve won the Nobel Prize, are a Siemens finalist, etc. At a certain point, it’s all just luck.

@writergirl0316 Alright thanks. That makes sense since so many people apply there.

Ivy League and Berkeley would be lucky to have you. UCI will explode and definitely accept you.

UCI & UCSD are your safeties, Ivies are just mystery for everyone so good luck

Wow! Surely I can’t be deserving of such high praise?

Thank you everyone for the help though, it’s helping me get more realistic on what might happen on March 30th.

Honestly, don’t let any chance thread tell you that you can’t get into those top colleges. ^^^You are such an impressive candidate and will get into great schools.

Thank you! Hopefully I get into one of my top ones  @AshleyMisAwesome

Bump (sorry)

@CenturiesAway why the bump? quit trying to hear good news when none of us actually know. You are impressive, Ivys are a crapshoot. UCs should be accepts and so should Duke

@ANormalSeniorGuy
There isn’t any reason for you to express such aggravation. I wanted to try this website to glean as much information as I could about my chances at the universities, not to bolster my ego with pointless praise. I merely wanted more advice from people on this website, some of whom might actually have a superb perception of the college admissions landscape. There are admissions officers, alumni, and etc. on this forum that can offer insightful perspectives into college- information that a high school senior could never dream of knowing. Besides, this forum was made exactly for the purpose of obtaining advice, and how am I able to get that without allowing people a chance to give it?
