Hello. Pitt’s application for Fall 2016 is now open, so I have begun working on it. I noticed it gives applicants the ability to report their own academic record instead of sending an official high school transcript. I’ve never even heard of this, so I must ask. Are there any real differences between the SRAR and sending an official high school transcript? Will it influence the school’s decision at all?
The SRAR is intended to give you the opportunity to take more ownership of the application process. Self-reporting can be quicker than requesting a transcript, you don’t have to wait for your school to send it and for it to arrive at the admissions office. Of course, as we indicate on the application, it is entirely optional. You may elect to send a transcript at this point instead.
We will be requesting the final, official transcript for all admitted students (whether they completed the SRAR or not) to verify that those who used the SRAR filled everything in accurately and to track of the final academic performance of all of the students who are matriculating in to Pitt.
Whether you choose to complete the SRAR or send in a transcript does not effect our decision. Either way, we are getting the information we need about a students’ academic performance so that we can make an informed admissions decision. I hope that helps clarify things!
Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer
