I’ve read in a couple places that at Northwestern, students usually self-segregate based on race/religion. How true is this?
i think it’s more so that students feel comfortable around people like them. that isn’t to say that students don’t immerse themselves in more diverse environments
It happens and is definitely noticeable on campus, but there are lots of people who have diverse sets of friends, lots of diverse friend groups, and many places where diverse sets of people get together.
While there is a tendency for students to be around people more similar to themselves, I would argue that this is fairly normal. In general, humans are attracted to others who are similar…it just kind of makes sense. With that said, you meet and befriend lots of people from a variety of backgrounds here and the school is thankfully small enough that it would be pretty hard not to interact and hear from different perspectives in your time here.
