Can self studying AP Chem whilst enrolled in high school regular Chem produce good results? Should I try this? I figure the more exams I take, the more opportunities to get 5's there are

I personally took both, regular chem and AP chem in high school. I signed up for AP chem just because of the misconception that it is just a little advanced version of chemistry but that isn’t true at all…In fact, whatever we learned in regular chem was just reviewed in ap chem for a week and then we got into hardcore stuff.

Speaking for myself, I am a below average 3.5 GPA student. So I had lots of difficulties acing that class. If you have passion for chemistry and desire to work hard then go for it :)

It is doable but you will need to put in a lot of extra time. A regular chem class probably only covers 40% of the material that is on AP Chem. At least, that is how it was at my school since I took both regular chem, then AP. Even though it is only 40%, the topics are still mostly the same so the 60% that is exclusive to AP is actually just going more in depth into each topics. There might be a topic or two that are AP only, but most of it is just an extension to regular chem. So with that in mind, it might not be too hard just taking a little time each topic to learn the AP material.

I think I’ll decide after the first week of regular Chem, and see if the topics on the syllabus match well with the AP topics

Hey I was wondering the same thing. This year i took regular bio at school and selfed ap bio and got a 5. I wanna do the same thing for my regular chem class next year, but I’m worried because there are like 22 required labs, right?
