Self Study AP vs SAT Subject Tests?

I’m currently a junior in high school. I’ve been considering taking the chemistry SAT subject test to enhance my college applications and show that I’m good at chemistry, because I want to major in biochemistry or pre-med.

I recently learned that you can take an AP test without taking the class (self studying). I took regents (New York State standardized tests) chemistry my sophomore year because my school doesn’t offer AP. I’m confident I could score well on both, but I was wondering if it would be more beneficial for me to take the AP, the subject test, or both?

Some schools require/recommend SAT subject tests, so check the policies of the schools you want to apply to! Another CC thread also said that taking both SAT and AP isn’t redundant, for your reference.

Definitely take the AP for college credit, but only take SAT II you are applying to a school that recommends or requires them (usually top 20 schools like ivies, MIT, etc.)

I would say SAT II for Admission requirements purpose, AP for college credit purpose.
