Okay, imagine for a moment that your school, like my school, does not have a weighted GPA or AP classes, BUT you are allowed to take the AP tests and actually encouraged to.... what is the difference between taking the Chem AP and the Chem SAT II, pros of each? cons of each?
THANK YOU

AP and SAT II are taken for different reasons.

Several top 20 schools require 2 subject tests. So in order to apply, you need those scores.

Having an AP test on your commonapp is added value while SAT II is a requirement in some places.

Having specific AP scores in some subjects will get you college credits in many colleges.

Subject Tests:
Required to apply to some colleges
No college credit, as far as I know
Cost less than AP tests
No such thing as “SAT Subject” classes
Given more than once during the year
Highest score is 800
High school level chemistry (first year)
All multiple choice

AP Tests:
Not required anywhere as far as I know
College credit at certain colleges for certain scores
Cost more than Subject Tests
Have classes that correspond with the test
Given in May
Highest score is 5
College-level chemistry (second or third year)
Have multiple choice and free response questions

Thanks guys!

Agree with the above; and I would add that studying for the AP exams made the SAT II test a lot easier. I only took the BIO and HIST subject tests. Don’t know if the same applies for the other subject tests.
