Hey guys. I was wondering if it was possible to self-study for the Physics C: Mechanics exam in two months time. I am taking AP Physics 1 this year (the most advanced physics my school offers) and was wondering if I could just apply Calculus to the concepts I learned and get a 4 or 5 on the Physics C: Mechanics test. I am also taking Calc AB this year. If not, I still have the option of self-studying for Physics C: Mech and E&M next year, in my senior year.
BTW, I would be taking either the Physics 1 exam or the Physics C: Mechanics exam, not both
Physics C:Mechanics? In two months? Yeah, I don’t see that happening.
Physics C: Mechanics requires a lot more time than 2 months could ever do it justice. It is not an easy AP; it’s considered one of, if not the most, difficult APs available.
Were I you, I would wait it out for the next academic year. Then, you will have more time to study the concepts.
Okay thanks…one of my friends thought it might be a good idea so he is planning on studying it in two months and taking the test. He said I should try to do it too but I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea.
I would say it’s doable, since I also started Mechanics late and got a 5 last year. I also had to self study AP Calc AB along with Physics C since I was only taking pre-calc as I study Mechanics. I would seek a lot of help from your physics teacher. A lot of concepts are the same from AP Physics 1 to AP Physics C, just make sure you know how to apply derivatives and integrals to work, force, etc. Also, one thing that’s more specific to AP Physics C is rotational motion/energy/torque. Make sure you study that thoroughly. You can also use flippingphysics website and MIT OpenCourseWare. Good luck!
I’m actually going to start studying for Physics C: Mechanics and E/M this month. I’m hoping to finish with mechanics this month and then next month, I’ll start E/M. I took Physics B last year and Calc BC last year, so hopefully it will end up being doable.
