Hello CC!

A friend of mine and I are going to be self studying AP Physics C: Mechanics this year (his senior, my junior). It will be cool because we'll be the only people at school taking all three AP Science classes. However, we don't know what textbook we should purchase.

What textbooks are good for self studying this course?

I recommend “Fundamentals of Physics” by Halliday & Resnick. If you’re just doing Mechanics, just get Vol. 1. There’s a lot of problems at the end of each chapter, which require original thinking instead of just repeating exercises with different numbers. You should also try “Introduction to Mechanics” by Kleppner-Kolenkow. This book is more rigorous, so get it after you finish Halliday & Resnick. You should have no trouble getting a 5 with this route.

Good Luck.

My class uses Physics for Scientists and Engineers (Serway, Jewett) 6th ed.

I heard Fundamentals of Physics is good.
