Self-study Physics B?

I am wondering how feasible it is to self-study Physics B without any background knowledge in physics. I will end up graduating high school without taking any classes in physics, and I would like to try to self-study for B in my senior year. Is a textbook absolutely necessary for the self study? I really don't want to put down $100 for a textbook if possible. Are there any review books that are indepth enough to substitute for a textbook? If not, are there any open-courseware physics courses that will cover all or parts of the Physics B curriculum? Even if there isn't, would it be possible to learn everything from miscellaneous physics websites ?

I did this this year and got a 5. Here’s what I did: I borrowed a textbook from my Honors Physics teacher. The textbook was Giancoli’s Physics. I also got Barron’s AP Physics B review book and did the whole thing, minus a few of their practice tests. I relied heavily on khanacademy.org.

I think that you could forge a curriculum for yourself using only online materials. I suggest googling “MIT OCW AP Physics” and looking into the courses they have. I also suggest using KhanAcademy like I did. However, it is really beneficial to have lots of practice problems. Perhaps you can use Giancoli’s online problems? [Giancoli, Physics : Principles with Applications, 5/E](http://cwx.prenhall.com/giancoli/)

Good luck! Don’t start the review book until you are done covering all of the topics and doing the problems. It is good to have a deeper understanding than the one that Barron’s provides.

Thanks for the advice! I could also borrow a book from my school’s physics teacher, but I do not know how good it is… It is called Glencoe Physics : Principles and Problems

You can just self-study with a prep book, I’d recommend PR as it is leaner than the Barrons one. With that and khanacademy, it should not be too hard.

Hey Nick, if you would like I have the 6th edition of Giancoli Physics pdf file. It is online as a torrent. If you want I can message it to you.
