Hello, I’m aware that there are already hundreds of threads here about self-studying for AP’s, however my situation is a little different.
I’m going to be a freshman in highschool in September, and I live in Canada. As you know in Canada, the curriculum is extremely dull, and it moves along a very slow pace. So I’m currently entering freshman year (Grade 9) with knowledge of Algebra I, and bits and pieces of Algebra II (mind you, I self-taught myself Algebra I and II. Most kids in my age are in pre-algebra, which again is the curriculum’s fault). Also, my science classes are a joke; we barely learn anything, just very basic biology, chem and physics (I don’t even know if I can call them bio, chem and physics)…
So with that said, will I be able to self-study AP Psychology and AP Human Geography simultaneously, starting in September? I chose to self-study AP’s because schools in Canada don’t offer a huge variety of AP’s (for example my school only offers AP English Lit, AP Chemistry and AP Calculus AB), and those AP courses cannot be taken until senior year. I am tired of being behind; I’ve been stuck in the same tedious education system for years and now that I’m in highschool I want to change that. I do know that there are no prerequisites to AP Psych and APHG which is why I chose them: they capture my interest and it gives me an insight as to what AP classes are like, since those are the easiest AP classes as I’ve heard.
I’m a very strong writer and a very disciplined student, so I’m confident that I will do well. I do not spend a lot of time with sports and extra-curriculars so I will have lots of time on my hands. I also want to get into University of Toronto, which is a somewhat competitive school so I’m trying to shine, but I’m doing this mainly to not bore myself with highschool. I just want some advice, or maybe precautions or comments regarding whether you guys think I’m ready or not. =)
(by the way, if these AP exams go well, I’m thinking of self-studying AP Stats and AP Physics 1 in sophomore year and AP Physics 2 and AP Environmental Science in junior year. How do you guys think that will go?)
