Hello,
I am an upcoming sophomore and want to take AP CS. My school doesn't allow us to take AP classes till junior year and doesn't offer the class anyway. Are lectures available online to help me prepare or should I just buy a book? I have OOP experience but I only know a little Java. Thanks!

There are two things you should do to get an 5 on the exam, learn Java and then learn about the AP Exam.

For learning Java is general you can check out videos or read a book. Personally, I would prefer a book.

Here is a series of Java tutorials:

And if you want to read a book, you can choose any CS1 Java textbook.

For learning about the exam, I suggest you to use the Barron’s prep book on APCS, and take practice tests. You can google up an Collegeboard APCS Practice test.

Part of the exam will be made up of the case study called GridWorld. You can’t just read about it, you need to compile and try out the program yourself. I wouldn’t worry about this yet until like March next year.

Hi Everyone:

I have a similar situation. I am considering taking the AP Computer Science course also next year and it seems proper that now is the ripest time to buy a textbook. Collegeboard has recommended some books. Could everyone kindly peruse the list and give some suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Honestly guys, just take it, lots of people went in not knowing anything about programming and still got 5s on the test.
