I’m going into 10th grade, and have taken a relatively light course load (only one AP) when I know I would be able to do more because my electives take up 2 class periods and I don’t have a space to fit in another AP course. Would self-studying AP Psychology and Environmental Science, even though they are offered at my school, improve my chances at college admissions if I knew I could get at least a 4 since they are known to be easier? Many of my classmates have said that colleges don’t like it when you self-study courses that your school already offers, but I can’t take them in school because I’m saving those spots for the harder AP classes.
No. Colleges would rather you take the class. Self studying does not impress them.
No college will expect you to take every course your HS offers.
I agree…colleges care about the classes you take for admissions purposes.
But you could get college credit for a class if you do well on the AP exam.
Your time would be better spent elsewhere.
