Self-Studying APs: Improving Your App

[College Scholarships - Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>AP Awards & Recognitions – AP Students | College Board)

The link is as posted above. I never really looked much into it once I figured out I most likely won’t be eligible for any cash money with my meager three math/science exams by the end of junior year.

^I’m disqualified because my school lacks a computer science course. Also our Physics department is horrible and we only have calculus AB

^I’m sorry.

I could never get that award! I’ve only taken AP Environmental Science and did get a 5, but my school doesn’t even teach AP Calc BC, AP Physic C (or B…), AP Bio, or AP Computer Science.

^Puggly that sucks. My school teaches everything except computer science and Calc BC. But my AP Bio class next year is probably only going to be 3 or 4 people. My Spanish Lang class is going to be 3 people. LOL

^ We had like 10-15 kids sign up for AP Physics C this year and my school still won’t teach it. I really despise my school.

Is it small?^

We have over 1000 students in the school, so it’s not entirely small.

So it’s about the same size as mine 1200 students or so. I hate my school so much. I was going to pursue early graduation, but I don’t want to because it’ll compromise my chances for Johns Hopkins because I won’t be able to take calculus.

^I was thinking about graduating early as well, but ditched the idea.

^Yeah, some high schools are awesome. There’s one like 80 miles north of me called Clements High School that has every AP class in the book and around 3,000 students with a large Asian population…I just think my life sucks when I think of schools like that.

I regret not being able to take these 8 classes too. :frowning:

Public schools usually have strict prerequisites to get into higher level math/science courses

^Yeah, there are prerequisites for almost everything except APES.

I’m sad :frowning: My parents succinctly informed me that they do not care about APs or my self-studies or anything to do with my education. What I would give for Asian parents (or URM ones…then I wouldn’t have to worry as much, jk.)

^You don’t want Asian parents seriously. I’m Indian, so technically Asian. They’re all about education. It’s not even funny how stressful they make everything.

In that case, I’m going to take 15 in my HS career if, by some miracle or another, I end up getting into H next year.

^AP’s aren’t really super important.

^I know. But if I end up getting into H, I’ll take that many just to set a record at H. But yes, I know they are essentially useless.

Gah then why is there a 50 page thread about them? (Not arguing with you…I’m just asking a question because I, like many others, have self-studied APs.

Hmm, I wish I had known about such things as self-studied APs earlier. As I am an upcoming senior already, I don’t know if I should bother with self-studied APs? I’m taking 3 aps next year (Calc AB, Eng Lit, and Econ), and I don’t think AP exams taken next May are gonna be helpful for my college applications? So, the question is, should i do it?

PS. i’ve already done AP Bio and Eng Lang this year, and well i failed Bio but got a 4 for eng.
