CC is a fine complement to Barrons for psych.

I’m going to take AP Physics B in Senior Year along with AP Bio. Is it possible to self-study for AP Physics C along with taking B as a class (my school doesn’t offer C)?

Does anyone have any cram sheets/study guides/student compiled notes for any of the following classes:
AP Psych
AP Macro/Micro
AP Environmental
AP Art History

I’m trying to self study those, so any student written aides would be greatly apprecaited.

You can probably find notes and chapter outlines of textbooks online

Hi Oasis,

I am currently only taking AP US History, since my school only offers one advanced placement course for juniors. However, we can apply for honors credit in any of our core courses. I am taking Psychology for my elective, but it is only a semester course. I am planning to self-study for psychology. What do you think about this arrangement?

Also, I am taking Physics (Honors, if I can keep up). My school has AP Biology, but I know that if I take AP Biology this year, it will be hard for me to get an awesome GPA and 5s on my APs and SAT and SAT II. Thus, I’m hoping to take AP Bio my senior year. Also, I could change to environmental science and self-study for the AP. Could you please help me with my choices?

Physics seems like a better choice to take because it is a core course, and I already took chemistry, ap chemistry (didn’t do so well), and biology. However, if I take environmental science, I can take the ap course.

Also, I am taking the AP Chinese Culture test. I self-studied chinese, though I am asian, because I studied in taiwan for 2 years.

Thank you for your time oasis.

Stupid question, but how do we register if our school doesn’t offer the test? Do we just go to another school?

Yes. My former school didn’t offer AP Euro, and most of the students just registered at a nearby high school that did administer the exam. Just make sure to report and fill out the forms correctly.

Do people (other than on this website) actually self-study? I’ve never heard of it other than on here

I don’t think all schools make you go to other schools that do offer it. I self studied APES last year and my school doesn’t offer it, I just went and talked to the AP Coordinator and she ordered a test for me. You usually have to take it like in their conference room or something with the proctor.

POINT OF POST:

So I’ve been thinking, would it be more beneficial for me to SS AP Economics tests or SS Physics B? I want to study engineering in college, so I’m thinking that Physics B is the right one, and I’m planning on taking Physics C next year. I’m in Honors Physics now, so that should help, right? (Physics B is the non-calculus one, right?)

What grade is good to start self studying?

My parents argue that I shouldn’t do it on my sophomore year…what do you say?

I am a Sophomore and am considering (rather, I have almost decided on) self-studying the AP World History and AP Psychology exams. I am currently enrolled in AP US History (the only AP we can take as sophomores at my school) and was wondering: (1) if it is possible, and (2) if anyone could recommend prep-books.

I have an A+ in the AP US History class and my GPA is 4.65 weighted (4.24 unweighted)

Other information: I took an honors World Civilizations course last year, but Europe was not covered because we learned about it briefly in grade 8.

Thanks!

Thank you so much. REALLY :)

Is reffonomics a good website to self study the economics exams with?

Hey, I’m a sophmore and its february (a lil late, I know), and I just realized I’d really like to take AP econ - macro, micro, or both - this year. I bought some review books - Princeton Review and Barons - and I was wondering: a) if it was too late to learn the material / get a 5; b) should I be taking both, one, and (if applicable) which?

Thanks!

Sophomore year is fine to self-study AP courses. I would recommend taking one of the easier tests though, just in case you feel uncomfortable with the format of the test, and just so you don’t bite off more than you can chew.

I managed to get a 5 on Human Geography, and if you have the drive (and as Oasis said, if you are considering taking a self-study test, you probably do have the drive), it should be very doable. And as my principal used to say, “Don’t be afraid of greatness!”

@halemcck, I’m planning on using that website myself, so hopefully it should help. I’ve also heard other posters reference it, so I’m expecting it to be fine.

@njdevs, If you have no other AP tests (and even if you have one or two), you should be able to score well. It does depend on how much time you have free in your day. You can choose to take either, or both. Look at the descriptions of each to see which one appeals to you more. They are very related though, so if you want a challenge, you can try both.

Also, thank you Oasis for introducing me to self-studying more than two years ago. Without your post, I couldn’t have done it :).

I’m schedule to take AP US History and AP Computer Science, but I don’t think its anything I can’t handle. Thanks for the advice!

What’s the ranking of the following AP classes as regarded by top colleges (1-10 scale):

World History
European History
Government Politics
Comparative Government

Thanks for the information. I am thinking of self-studying 3 AP courses, all of them history related since it is basically memorization, along with 5 AP courses at school. I usually slacked off a lot but I am going to take it seriously since it’s going to be my last year. The information you have given me is extremely helpful.

I took AP Chem this year and my teacher really is bad at explaining things and the labs we did were not very helpful so my whole class ended up learning the materials themselves instead. It was really horrible when it was the exam day, everybody was freaking out. I so agree that it is better to take the course with a teacher. Hopefully the teacher is a lot better than mine. I would also recommend anyone taking AP Chem to have prior knowledge if they are going to take it, it would be a lot easier.

Human Geography. Countless people have gotten a 5 on that exam with only a week or two of study.

~As a freshman I only got a 3 but I didn’t have the study skills or any other Social Science background. If you have AP World History (because you go through lots of civilizations) you’ve already nailed tons of the points. I score higher now than I did as a freshman on practice tests…
