Self Studying APs

Whihc aps should i slef study if ive taken or am taking these courses in my sophmore

honors preclalc
honors algebra
honors gemotry
honors trignometry
earth science
honors bio
honors chem
global history 1
ap european history
honors english 9
honors english 10
latin i
latin ii
latin iii

Uhm, if you’re taking/have taken AP Euro history, then you can take the AP for it but it won’t require self studying.

The Latins don’t correspond to an AP, the Englishes won’t prepare you for the AP English exam and I don’t recommend self studying for that anyway. It really requires year-round studying and instruction from a teacher. AP Whist (corresponding with global history) covers a LOT of information, so if you’re memory isn’t exceptional, it’ll be hard to teach to yourself. There is no Earth science, and although you’ve taken all of those maths, it’s hard to teach yourself Calc. I’ve heard a few people recommend it but that’s if you have a great understanding of math, and a teacher whose willing to help when you get confused.

All that leaves is Chem or Bio (bio is easier, and if you did well in honors than self study isn’t hard), Euro History, and possibly World History. Those are my recommendations anyway.

i would self study AP Bio, maybe AP World…

my reasoning is this: you’re obviously decent at reading comprehension if ur doing ap euro history, and bio is basically that and it’s an AP in another subject area. also, you’re already taking honors bio.

ap world along the same lines, if you have enough time, b/c it uses similiar skills, but it is a history course and you want to appear well-rounded. also, you’re taking world history anyway.

DON’T study AP Chem unless ur really good at chem, b/c it’s heavy on concepts that are best dealt w/ a teacher.

well i think ill do ap world history
i can just take ap bio as a course
but my school doesnt offer ap world history and i dont think it adminiters the test
so what do i do
also what book would be the best for ap world history and the world history sat ii

Uhm, if the school administers any AP test than that means it has an “Ap Coordinator” (in charge of taking payments for, and ordering the test). Find out from a counselor or an AP teacher who that is, and ask them if you can take the AP History exam. At my school there are no rules as to what exams are “Administered”. You basically just sign up for it and the school takes it upon themselves to find a proctor for the exam.

so what book would you guys suggest for both ap exam and sat ii

@ sohaibshaikh: If you’re referring to the tests for World History, I got a 5 and an 800 using these three books.

Textbook: Traditions and Encounters by Spielvogel, ?? (pretty good)
AP Prep Book: Barron’s AP World 2008 (if on a budget, this is good enough for SAT II prep too…like most Barron’s books, it goes into more detail than necessary so if you’re in a time crunch, use PR)
SAT II Prep Book: PR’s SAT II World 2008 (do NOT use Barron’s SAT II unless you are really good at history…I found all sorts of confusing errors…thank god history is my best subject or I would have been tricked…I had to resort to googling suspicious errors)
